Prince George, B.C.- While Prince George’s  12.9 percent  unemployment rate  for January is slightly better than the December mark of 13.6, it is still more than double the  rate experienced in January of 2009 when the rate was 5.9%.

In the Cariboo, the rate last month was 12 percent, compared to 6.1 % in January of ’09.

The provincial mark slipped slightly to 8.1% from 8.3%.

The National  rate also  dropped a touch to 8.3% from the previous mark of 8.4%

Why do they even bother posting these numbers, all the numbers mean is how many poeple are collecting EI benefits, it doesn't give a clear picture of how many people are actually out of work!!

it just means that more EI benefits ran out! so yes that must mean they are working!! NOT!! means they are now really struggling to make ends meet!!
EI collectors are dropping off of the map
and now that I have had further time to stew about this!! what I would really like to see is the number of people collecting welfare.

People collecting EI benefits, means they at least paid into it!! but what about all the individuals collecting welfare that are more than capable to work but choose not to!! but are more than happy for the regular Joe to go to work and pay taxes so they can continue to sit on their butts!! and get free money!!

how about we get those numbers, now them are some numbers I would like to see!! damn might even pay to see them!! oh wait we are paying!!
Very good point Anastasia... how about the welfare numbers, the EI numbers, and the in and out of work force numbers all in one comparable chart each month?

That would actually have value in which we the citizens that vote to elect and empower our governments would be doing so with an informed viewpoint that isn't so easily confused from the real picture with meaningless stats on their own. One has to conclude that most of the stats like the EI numbers and GDP (Made up of fraudulent financial sector valuations) and most of the numbers governments feed the public are more about controlling view points, than actually informing people of whats really going on in government. That's my conclusion anyways.
"People collecting EI benefits, means they at least paid into it!! but what about all the individuals collecting welfare that are more than capable to work but choose not to!! but are more than happy for the regular Joe to go to work and pay taxes so they can continue to sit on their butts!! and get free money"

Maybe the people on welfare also had their EI benefits run out, which coincidentally leads me to my next thought. What exactly is the difference between an able bodied person on welfare who chooses not to work and an able bodied ex forestry worker (who's EI has run out), who chooses not to work?
The point is, that the numbers are B.S. Unemployment means not working, but the numbers do not paint a true picture of the amount of people that have run out of E.I. benefits. The government only tells us what we want to hear.
"The government only tells us what we want to hear"

If that were the case, they would just come out and say that the unemployment rate was at 7%, that 500 jobs were created in PG last month, etc.

Do you think that maybe, just maybe, it's possible that something like the unemployment rate isn't a precise calculation and that it's very difficult to get an accurate measure when there are so many uncontrollable variables going into the calculation? I'd say that's more realistic that it is to turn it into a conspiracy of grand proportions.
Many people are unemployable regardless of the availability of jobs or not. Some just aren't capable of working through choice or otherwise. Parents ,schools, and government have a responsibility to educate people from an early age,but there wouldn't be nearly as great of need for social services if this was done. When the company I work for is looking for employees say we get 100 applicants. Once we introduce mandatory drug testing 80-85 % of applicants don't come back. WTF!!!!
Call Western Coal they are looking to hire
over a 100 people in the not to distant future, but you have to pass the test. How is it people can access this life style without a job? Just park downtown and come back to your vehicle with a broken window and anything valuable missing. Round and round we go! Can't work but creating jobs for social services. Tax payers pay ! Tax Payers pay! Rant! Rant! Rant! Sorry!
