Prince George, B.C.- Organizers  of  the upcoming celebration for the best in  residential and commercial construction say they are pleased with the number of nominations so far.

The awards gala, put on by the Canadian Home Builders Association- Northern BC and the Commercial Council of the B.C. Northern Real Estate Board, will celebrate the best in building over the past year at the Ramada Hotel in Prince George on April 29th.

“We see this as a great opportunity to promote the construction industry as a whole throughout northern B.C.,” says CHBA-NBC President Allen Creuzot. “Residential construction is a very important component of our economy, and we’ve been celebrating the building of the best homes for years now. This event will hopefully take it to the next level, as we join with the commercial building sector to let everyone know about the quality of construction we are known for in this region.”

Each organization will have its own set of categories for the awards. There are over two dozen CHBA-NBC award classifications, while there will be at least nine commercial categories:

  • Mixed Use,
  • Community Seniors Housing,
  • Multi Family,
  • Community Institution,
  • Commercial/ Retail,
  • Industrial,
  • Commercial Reno/ Restoration,
  • Office,
  • Hospitality,
  • Affordable Housing and
  • Commercial Green/ Energy Efficiency.
There will also be a “Judge’s Choice” award for best of show.

Nomination forms are available from both organizations.

Nominations will close March 31, 2010.

Single detached homes for seniors and others with disabilities always misses the cut it seems... more reason why this kind of thing should be included in the zoning of new developments... what will we do in a few years when those houses will really be needed in this town?
The big houses with lots of stairs are going to get harder to sell. That's when change will come. The small development by the corner of Kelly Rd and Austin Rd looks interesting. One floor and small with a garage.
I agree how about single level homes for the older set. Getting tired of the stairs. Every realtor nows it, builders get with the progam. How about a gated comunity with affordable single level in a nice area. Why I say gated community? So we can leave for extended periods of time and not worry about yard and such. They build them down in the Okanagan, guess will wind up moving there.
Yes, definitely a need for one floor homes and easy access condo units. I would love to see a little more character on some of these new builds. It seems to me that we lack buildings with any design interest. Go anywhere in BC and see great design on a lot of condos, come here and it is boxes.Same old, same old tired cookie cutter designs of yesterday. At least it seems that way to me.
