Prince George, B.C.- You won’t have to be in Vancouver to get into the Olympic Spirit today. With the Opening ceremonies set for this evening, the Cougars are opening up the CN Centre a little early so you can watch as much of the opening ceremonies on the “Jumbo-tron” as possible before the hockey game  that will see the Cougars host Portland begins at 7:00.
At UNBC,  they are celebrating the start of the 2010 games with a winter carnival. Set to start at 3:00 this afternoon with horse drawn hay rides every 2o minutes,  there will also be a snowman building competition, performances by Judy Russell’s Hip Hop Dancers, ice skating, crazy carpet races, a scavenger hunt,   then live coverage of the Opening Ceremonies at 6:00.
You can visit this link at any time to see what’s happening in Robson Square in Vancouver.
The Premier has issued this official statement   on the opening of the games:
"With the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, we witness the fulfilment of a dream that began over a decade ago, culminating with a moment in history that our province and nation will never forget.

"Hosting these Games is an achievement on the world stage that all British Columbians and all Canadians can be proud of. Together, we have welcomed the world with open arms to see and experience our nation, our province and our
communities.

"In the weeks ahead we will witness incredible acts of skill, determination and pure spirit. Heroes will be made, hearts will soar and we will all be proud to proclaim ourselves Canadian.

"These are your Olympic Games. I encourage everyone to join with friends, family and neighbours to cheer on our athletes, celebrate our accomplishments, and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime moment.

"On behalf of all British Columbians, I want to thank the literally thousands of people from every province and territory who worked to make this moment happen. The visionaries who saw the possibilities years ago; volunteers like
Jack Poole and the dedicated team at VANOC led by John Furlong; the thousands of staff and volunteers who are working tirelessly today to ensure their success; and the sponsors and other partners who came forward with their
support.

"From the outset we wanted the Games to belong to all Canadians. Our greatest partner has been the Government of Canada, but it is the thousands of individual acts of generosity, kindness, inspiration and community spirit that
have defined these Games. These are Canada's Games. They belong to everyone. Enjoy the celebration."

Good Luck to all the Atheletes! Gooooo Canada Goooooo!
Woot woot!!!
Note to the world and especially VANOC/IOC:

The Canadian National Anthem is sung as per this link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwDvF0NtgdU
I am appalled that our anthem was not given the appropriate respect!

Now that I got that out of the way...

I wish all of the athletes the best of luck, and our visitors a warm welcome! (PS. For a real treat of majestic beauty, stay an extra week and come enjoy BC's northern region!)
