Prince George RCMP have released their results of their annual Christmas Drinking-Drving Counter attack, here's how the numbers stack up:

The Counter-Attack ran from December 2 through to midnight January 2nd.

 Vehicles checked   2031
Road Side Breath tests given       23
Drivers who passed the test         7
Drivers who failed the test         5
Drivers Warned (because of test)       10
 Impaired Charges         5
24hr Suspensions        13
other violations        18

RCMP say it looks like drivers got the message about drinking and driving over the Christmas holidays, as  most were fully aware police would be out in full force.

How about some stats on accidents caused by drinking and driving over the same period. Also any deaths in PG due to drinking and driving over the same period. The numbers are pretty good--only 23 people charged out of 2031. Who says we need more cops?
There is no, repeat, no excuse for drinking and driving. If one can afford to drink then they should be able to afford a cab or make the choice not to drink.
Maybe if vehicles were confiscated, drivers licences revoked permanently this stupid drivers would get the hint. And yes confiscate all vehicles under the control of a drunk driver and then all auto owners would be a lot less eager to loan out their vehicles.
Should dodo drive after loosing their licence then a hefty jail term would be wonderful. Do I sound harsh, I hope so. I don't want to have to identify a friend or family member killed by a drunk....
Getting people in jail under a liberal government is almost impossible.
Are drinking drivers really the problem? Not until they have an accident or hurt someone else.

The problem is the way we deal with the ones who have the accidents. We don't deal with them harshly enough. If we did, the deterant would be far more effective. Those who still choose to drink and drive will do so knowing what the cost is. I prefer much harsher penalty's for those who are involved in accidents and especially those who cause injury or death.

Think about this when you vote. Who has not been willing to deal with this effectively? Percy
