Golden Goalie...Wasn't He a Cougar?

Could someone please tell me why the Prince George Cougars got rid of Justin Pogge? I don’t know anything about hockey other than being a spectator , but it does occur to me that someone, namely Brent Sutter the coach of the World Junior gold championship team, must have seen something in him that we weren’t able to see.

Did we get a player (or two) , or maybe even a side of beef and a couple of chickens or something of equal calibre of Pogge when we traded him, or did we just not want a goalie of his ability? I know I shouldn’t ask , but gee whiz, it would seem to me, from the surface at least, that we made a bad deal in letting him go out of a Cougars jersey , so why did we?

By the way great job by Pogge and the rest of the team.  The hockey announcers have been trying to hide their heads in the barrel, after saying the Canadian team was too young, no super stars, and basically no talent. They had the USA picked for gold with a close second going to the Russians.

Well the Fins are heading home tonight with the bronze tucked into their belts and by God, those pesky Canadians have gold medals around their necks.

Brent Sutter is just smiling, he picked Pogge to go the distance, which raises that question again, just why we get rid of Pogge?

I'm Meisner, and that is one man's opinion.

After the game last night the T.S.N. announcers said "Last year while Pogge was playing in Prince Albert, he didn't even know if he would be playing junior hockey this year". I guess the guys in Toronto don't know the difference between Prince Albert and Prince George. They are both just "somewhere out west".
Pogge always added an air of interest while watching the Cougars, he took his position seriously. I was very happy to see him playing with our Team Canada. As for Prince George trading him? We lost a couple of good players in that trade, but age may have been a factor.
It seems strange to see Pogge play anywhere but here, but let's give the Cougars some credit for actually finding the guy in the first place.

They took him on a walk-on, he made the team, got traded and the rest they say is history. Dallas made a good move in giving this kid a shot and I bet Pogge is greatful for that shot.
hey duffer, way to keep it on topic bud. As for "big "bB's comments; Pogge was a good goalie in penticton, but there were some higher ranked goalies ahead of him down there. do not live under the illusion that he was a complete unknown. Pogge was drafted as a cat not as a hitman (by the leafs). Meaning Calgary and the cats knew what he was when they made the deal. Calgary gave up a first round drafted defenceman for pogge. I am sure they knew Pogge had tremendous skill when they made the deal. As with most players when they leave the cats, they then get better. Pogge is no different. Better coaches, better organizations await on the other side. Big B you sound like a canfor room regular and a guy looking to buddy up to ol big dallas Thompson to me, but hey whatever does it for ya bud.

Spanky,

Trust me, if you've read any of my past posts, I have been highly critical of Big D and Family down at the Plex. I haven't been to a cougars game in ages, and I have never been to the Canfor room. The only time I go is to sell 50/50 tickets for Minor Hockey.

And is Spanky your name, or is that your favorite activity?
