Although Canada won more gold medals than any of the other nations taking part, won more gold medals than any host nation….. it was the Men’s Hockey Gold that saved Canada’s psyche.
Sidney Crosby scored the goal in sudden death overtime to give Team Canada a 3-2 Victory over the United States.
The Canadians had the lead until the final seconds of the third period when the U.S.A. tied it up at two.
Sidney Crosby had been taking some heat for having failed to score in his previous two games, but in sudden death overtime, on a pass from Jerome Iginla, he nailed it, and put it in the U.S. net.

Let the Party Begin.

Wow what a game Very Proud to be a Canadian
Awesome Canada!

Proud to be Canadian.
Awesome game, great Olympics. Way to go Canada!
Awesome game, great finish.
Awesome game and awesome result, but come on - "saved Canadas psyche"? I really would hate to see some of our young amateur athletes forgotton because a bunch of millionaire NHL stars managed to win a game. We won more gold medals this year than any other country in ANY other winter Olympics. These athletes need to be proud and we need to be proud of them, not let them be overshadowed by Canadas golden boy, the almighty HOCKEY GAME.
This to shall pass.

Sure hope the Cougars and it's owner watched the game. AND took notes.
I couldn`t have said that any better myself interceptor! Hockey is awesome but it did not make the Olympic outcome what it is. Our athletes were all amazing and have made me extremely proud to be a Canadian. Our final medal standing is absolutely spectacular, but lets not forget all the other athletes from Canada as well as all the other countries that participated in our Olympics..they all worked very hard to be here and take part, and medal or no medal they all deserve a great round of applause. Way to go everyone! I`m so proud of all of you!
You're such a ray of sunshine, palopu! Have a beer.
And THANK GOD Palupo so shall you
It was a beautiful thing. I watched it with my grandson. It was simply wonderful.
Palopu have you ever wondered what it would be like to be positive about something ( anything )? They should use you for putting out forest fires. Seems you can throw a wet blanket over anything.
There's a couple of knocks on the professional hockey players who contributed in the Olympics. Ironically, they may have been the only athletes doing it soley for pride. None of them got paid. None of them need an endorsement deal - they're already rich and famous. And as far as I know, they stayed in the Olympic village.

The "true" athletes who aren't millionaires probably have somewhat more questionable motives. Win a medal and they get endorsement contracts. While I'm sure they competed for pride, some of their motivation had to have come from the possible payday a medal brings. No so with the Men's Canadian Hockey team. The only thing they had to gain was the satisfaction of winning for their country.

if the Cougar coaches and players were watching hockey they should watch the Women's hockey team as they didn't lose one game and played amazingly!!! they played like a team should not just ONE player making all the big moves the women's team know that they are a TEAM not just ONE big ego!!!

Maybe the Cougars can hire a few women for their team. Is there a rule against this? I watched the Yanks receive their SILVER medals yesterday after the game. More than half a dozen of them never said thank you to the guy handing out the medals. Very sad. In Yankee land you don't WIN silver, you LOSE gold. Hero or zero down there, I guess. I wasn't aware that winning silver was soooo embarrassing. Bummer.
Harb, the Canadians would have had the same looks on their faces if they won silver. Don't try to tell me that they would be all smiles after losing the gold.
All the NHLers received 20,000 for their gold like the other athletes. Let's hope they donated it to charity.
