Despite trailing by 9 at the half, the UNBC Timberwolves roared back in the second half to defeat Vancouver Island University by 19 Saturday to win the BCCAA championship.
Jose Araujo led the T'wolves with 22 points, followed by Inderbir Gill with 21. Key for the Twolves was their depth, with 33 points coming from non-starters (compared to 14 for VIU).
Inderbir was the MVP.
Next up for the Twolves is nationals in Calgary in 2 weeks.
The UNBC women chose a bad time to lose 2 games after they lost only one all season. They lost a heartbreaker to Camosun College by 1 point on Friday and then lost to the host VIU Mariners Saturday afternoon in the bronze medal game. Mercedes VanKoughnett of PG was UNBC's player of the game.
