Something I was wondering. Right now there's no GST on private car sales but PST when you register. Will private car sales be exempt from HST because they are currently exempt from GST saving us 7% PST we no longer pay or will you have to pay HST when you register meaning a private car sale will now cost 5% more? Anyone know?

Good question and one that we need answers to before Campbell makes a move.
I think there is much about the HST that they would rather we DID NOT know before it is put in place.
Once it is here,it is here forever.

Once the HST is in existence, is Gordo and his bunch gonna put "customs" officers at every road coming into BC so the people who buy washers, dryers, flat screen TVs fridges and stoves, freezers, computers and the like in Alberta will have to pay the HST once within our BC borders? I sure wouldn't wanna be a merchant in Dawson Creek selling that stuff. However, anyone flogging that stuff in Grande Prairie should be on easy street after July.

Good point Harbinger, and that is exactly what is going to happen.
For the government to think that people will not travel somewhere else to make a purchase is naive and irresponsible.
They can and they will, and B.C.merchants are going to feel it bigtime!
The HST will only add to the underground economy that is already in place where cash is king.
You can always find a contractor who will do a job for less if cash is involved, and that will only get worse.

Cross border shopping has been a big thing for years. The hst will only make it bigger.

ski50 asked the question yesterday....
As of the news at 6 PM,we now know for sure that we will be paying an extra 5% on private sales of cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, you name it!
Not to mention houses.
We have no choice, and failure to stop it is not an option.
Funny how they left that part out when explaining how it would work.
So what else are they leaving out?
Do we want to wait until the HST is in place to find out what else is going to cost us more?
If we don't stop this gross tax grab by Campbell and his greedy minions, who blew it all in the first place, the HST is going to severely beat the hell out of our economy here in B.C.
This is going to cost us al a lot of money and those with the least will feel it the most.
We need to get loud, very loud, and very disruptive, because failure is not an option.
The Campbell government has to go.
General strike and the sooner the better!
I really don't think we have a choice.
