People were warning of this exact thing 20 years ago. They were laughed out of the way with negative propaganda yet here we are. We are also seeing our rights and freedoms slowly being destroyed by the very people we pay high wages to look after our interests. Now they can stop you in your vehicle even if you have done nothing wrong, next will be entering your home without cause. My grandfather said to us before he died “get off of the grid and be self sustaining”. He said it with tears in his eyes. We never thought that maybe he knew exactly what was coming. Now my father lives with the constant worry that what he saved all his life is going to be enough. My question to everyone who may care is “What are we doing to the future generations?” These are our grandchildren and children.

IMO I don't think you have looked into what it would cost to get of the grid so to speak. Unless you want to drastically reduce your life style, add up the costs.

Unbelievable that the cost of natural gas would increase given the glut of natural gas on the market. Right now 2010 Sept futures prices are lower than the price of gas today. The Liberals are grasping at straws to pay for mismanaging the BC economy. These guys even make the NDP look like financial wizards.

Passing on increases in costs of doing business is common to most businesses, Terasen is no exception.

I have seen in prior years when Terasen has applied for and gotten rate reductions. Nobody cried Liberal government conspiracy then.

So the BCUC said...lower the price.

Good question. I'm not sure myself, but when I looked at Terasen's annual reports, it did note that Terasen is actually comprised of 3 different companies:

- Terasen Gas Inc.
- Terasen Gas (Vancouver Island) Inc.
- Terasen Gas (Whistler) Inc.

My hunch here (and it's just a hunch) is that each entity may have different rates fo the areas they serve and perhaps the rates for the Island, Whistler and Fort Nelson are already higher? Like I said, this is just a blind guess but it seems likely that there is some sort of connection between the fact that the rate increases don't apply to the Island and Whistler and that there seem to be different companies serving those areas. Where Fort Nelson fits into all this I haven't a clue.

Is there a carbon tax and a hst on that as well?

Let us compare the tax rates for the "rich."
For 2004-2010 inclusive the rich pay tax in BC @43.7%. During the same time the not so rich have seen the marginal rate drop from 22.05%-20.06 AND the $ that any tax payments start have gone up from $8,523 to $10,382.

I could go on, the provincial credit for low income workers, the federal working tax credit, the low marginal rate applies to income up to the first $35,859.

So perhaps it is you that need to open up your eyes to FACTS instead of spouting falsities.

Terasen Gas was sold a couple of years ago to a US Conglomerate called Kinder Morgan.

Kinder Morgan then sold Teresen to an Eastern Canadian Co., called Fortis Inc.
However Kinder only sold the regulated distribution business that delivers natural gas and piped propane to 900,000 customers in BC.

The sale did not include assests of Kinder Morgan Canada (formerly Terasen Pipelines) which is comprised primarily of refined products and crude oil pipelines that transport production from the Alberta oilsands.

Terasen states that they purchase gas on the open market for their customers and pass the cost through without any mark up. They make their money in the distribution end of the business.

Now here is an interesting question. Terasen never said that it purchased gas at the lowest price, so therefore is it possible they are paying more for this gas and purchasing it from Companies that actually own them and other Companies that sell gas.

In other words, if you dont know what the market price is, what price Terasen is paying for the gas compared to the market price, or whether they are purchasing it from specific gas companies on instructions from their owners Fortic Inc. then we dont know anything.

In any event you can rest assured that they are not doing us any favours,. and if this industry was not regulated we would be paying a hell of a lot more.

You can rest assured that the Terasen Lease Back arrangement between Terasen and the City was primarily to get the options off the table so that Terasen could be sold, without any baggage.

Such is life in the fast lane.
