MLAs John Rustad and SHirley Bond, join Pete Sherba of the Construction Association, Premier Gordon Campbell and MLA Pat Bell at this afternoon's announcement.
Prince George, B.C. - The Province will spend $87 million on 51 new provincial highway projects in northern B.C. this year, bringing the value of ongoing highway construction across the region to more than $200 million, Premier Gordon Campbell and Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Shirley Bond announced today.

"This will be one of the busiest highway construction seasons in the North on record, resulting in more than 1,200 jobs throughout the North and better infrastructure to support our communities and our regional economies," said Premier Campbell. "I'd like to thank the Government of Canada as well as local governments for partnering with us on some of
these projects."

Over $200 million has been committed to 70 new and ongoing highway projects across northern British Columbia alone. It is estimated that these projects will create over 1,200 direct jobs. Almost 400 highway  and other transportation infrastructure projects are scheduled this construction season across British Columbia.

"These investments in our highways will create jobs now, and improve our transportation networks for the future economic growth of our northern communities," said Bond. "Our provincial emphasis on infrastructure and an excellent relationship with the federal government means funding for many of the North's priority highway projects."

"Many of these projects will be excellent opportunities for our smaller contractors, who employ local workers and local equipment," said Jack Davidson, President of the B.C. Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association. "The work our members will do this construction season on hundreds of projects across the province will benefit British Columbia's
economy for years to come."

Thank you Gordo
Wow...talk about get your mugshot in a photo-op!
When you read this list, you realize that much of it should just be normal maintenance to keep these roads in decent shape.
Not really a big deal at all!
Why is it such a big deal and why are they grinning?
Hey Gordo...your cheap suit doesn't fit right...you need to push back from the trough a bit!
They really can't win, can they?
No they can't MrPG...nor should they.
Not when they bulls**t the voters as bad as this buch does!
Overture, curtains, lights
This is it, you'll hit the heights
And oh what heights we'll hit
On with the show this is it

"Olympic costs what???"
Yeah, I guess it's pretty easy to take a few cheap shots at a photo op.

I remember the 90's pretty well when the last regime all but ignored the roads in this province. At least these guys are doing something.

The ghost from budget past .....

Hot air from the left ....... hot air from the right .......

politcial air is hot air .... lesson #1 in life......
As long as unibrow Carole is in charge, The Liberals will win again.
OMG...Paul Ramsey...just when you figured all that therapy helped you to forget!
Looking at the picture again...that's a lot of money in wages standing there grinning...
Follow the money trail, notice the amount of money spent out west. Thats going to be the breadbasket for the next few years, that would be the reason why they want to spend the money.
Spending money on road improvements etc; is part of the responsibility of the Provincial Government and that is one of the reasons they tax us.

To try and make these expenditures look like something new,is just spin. Governments spend money on roads every years, and have done so forever.

More likely this is to try and distract people from the HST controversy.

Well, taking shots at how his suit looks kind of shows the mentality here. I'll take these announcements over the NDP chasing every major business and investment out of province like they did in the 90's thank you.
I was rummaging through my garage a few days ago and guess what? I found my unused "Recall Ramsey" bumper sticker. You remember those, doncha? Can't please anyone nowadays.
Looks like a bunch of regular road maintenance projects. It will be nice for the Liberals to have good roads to drive on while they are out looking for a job after the next election. Flim-Flam at its best. Maybe they are trying to take our minds off the HST.
I can't figure people out. They complain about the condition of the roads and then they complain when they're maintaining and upgrading the roads.

Often it's the same person griping about both.
"Project: H77 - Liard River Bridge to KM 60
Description of Work: Pave approx 34 km on Hwy 77 from km 46 to km 80,
north of Fort Nelson."

I hate to break this to our planning people and these politicians, but there is NO SUCH Liard River Bridge on Hwy 77. There is however an old swayback one lane bailey bridge accross the Fort Nelson River which might just end up falling down and washing down to the Liard someday. Maybe thats where that mixup came from.

While paving is usually welcome news, however making a paved road that has razor sharp shoulders about a half inch from the white lines and practically vertical drop of about 1.5 meters straight down, actually makes this road extremely dangerous. Blink and die driving the first stretch of this newly paved bike path which is called a highway, but for some reason is never engineered as being a proper highway. It is a busier road than the Alaska Hwy is north of Fort Nelson and continuously used for wide loads.

Please do not pave the next section as it has been paved so narrow on the first section. I'm sure there are good intentions here, but I will rather get the rockchips than see people certainly die because of this expensive mistake. Spend the money on widening the first paved part first..please.
