The $185-million dollar Northern Development Initiative Trust was established in 2004 as part of the sale of B.C. Rail by the provincial government to Canadian National Railway...

Former Mackenzie Mayor Tom Briggs was the inaugural Chair of the Prince George Regional Advisory Committee (RAC), responsible for overseeing the region's 20-million dollar portion of that fund.  But Briggs stepped down from the post after losing the Mackenzie mayoralty race in the November municipal elections.

And members of the PG RAC have announced the appointment of Art Kaehn to replace Briggs.  Kaehn has been a director on the Fraser-Fort George Regional District for the past 18-years, and Vice-Chair for the past 5 years.  He is also Chair of the Fraser-Fort George Regional Hospital District.

Members of the PG RAC meet regularly during the year to review proposals for funding projects within the region, which stretches east-west from Valemount to Fraser Lake and north-south from Mackenzie to Hixon.

The PG RAC has the distinction of approving the first project to receive NDI funding -- in September, Valemount received $345,000.00 for a "Gateway Visitors Information Centre".
