Oh Those Mountie Uniforms

One of the ,”acts” during the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics was a song and dance routine headed by Michael Buble , who is not only Canadian , but also an internationally recognized performer.

So part of the presentation was Buble on stage with a host of cast members, many of them women dressed up like ,”Canadian Mounties” along with huge blow up dolls that also looked like Mounties.

Now comes word that the Mounties have gotten in touch with Vanoc and complained that the dress was not appropriate and, heaven forbid, some of the dancers showed more than their skirts. Those blow up dolls also really didn’t look like the real Mountie.

Now to his credit Vanoc head John Furlong has apologized to the head of RCMP, for the costumes.

Now Furlong’s first comment should have been , “get a grip” , this was a show , in fact a musical number and if it had featured the Queen Of England or for that matter the Pope, would there have been such a flap?  Of course not, they are depicted every day, in some numbers in not a very flattering way.

So what did Buble do that was so offensive?  Some of the dancers showed a leg, the uniforms were not a perfect match.  For God’s sake were they intended to be?

We had a world stage and Buble was trying to show off Canada’s finest, a Mountie, in a musical number. The heads of the RCMP instead took the opportunity to criticize his show.

Wonder why the once famous red coats are quickly receding to the back of the pack in respect and popularity?  Look no further than this item.

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

Better show more respect for the 'uniform' Ben! The next road block might just end up with a tasering!!!
Wonder if Furlong got permission from the Walt Disney Co. ? Didn't the Mounties sell Disney exclusive marketing rights to the RCMP "image" a few years back? Might be grounds for an infringement of copyright law-suit coming up here.
Accurate representation.......what did they want? Tasers?

Throughout the Olympics I thought there was a lot of positive interaction between the public and the RCMP. Sadly it looks like it's all coming to an end.
I find it kind of humorous, that VANOC is being challenged about copy write stuff by the RCMP, instead of the opposite.

Having said that, "Children" get along in the playground! Both organizations have become disgraceful!! Time you both re-think how you do business. From what I hear, alot of people are disgusted with both of you!
Like it or not, this is what protecting the 'brand' of the RCMP is about. The RCMP's concerns are not unlike any other company protecting its logo and image.
"I find it kind of humorous, that VANOC is being challenged about copy write stuff by the RCMP, instead of the opposite." ... where was it said anywhere in the piece that this was a copyright issue? Saying your image was represented improperly or inaccurately is almost 180 degrees from complaining about copyright infringment.
Obvious non of you understand Copyrights. If you owned it you would be crying now.
I find it interesting that Mercer referred publicly that the four officers sent home for misbehaving during the Olympics were involved in 'minor' incidents. Shoplifting and sexual assault would not be considered minor in my book, especially when the police are involved.

what actually does Mercer consider major ??

Oh yes, on the other hand, a group of female entertainers were being 'demeaning'and not reflecting 'core values' because they were wearing red dresses and kneesocks in a show.

Time to get your priorities straight. Leave the girls alone and focus on the four members that were sent home.
I wonder if Tim Hortons will complain that the blow up mounties dolls did not have a double-double as part of their attire.
Another smoke screen is way I see it. A tarnished image already. This takes away from the real issues facing the R.C.M.P.
"acopolympics" say what??? Maybe copy write was the wrong word, but they were certainly pissed about the blow up RCMP dolls, and the ladies in not so perfect RCMP uniforms.

I think most people got my drift, except you. It was a show, and it was a fine show I may add. The RCMP's name is badly tarnished, and so it should be! Is this the best they can do to restore some public confidence? Attack VANOC? Shameful, to say the least. The both of them are as corrupt as corrupt gets!! They both need to be dismantled, NOW!
