Prince George, B.C.- “As a Minister I am absolutely committed, as a Government we are absolutely committed to do everything  possible to reducing the impact of the mid-term timber supply. Jim Snetzinger (Chief Forester) is currently doing a timber supply review in the Prince George Timber Supply area and much of the information he has been preparing indicates there is significant opportunity to mitigate the mid-term timber supply.” Those are the comments of Minister of Forests and Range, Pat Bell, speaking about the recent Wood Markets report which said that beause of the damage  done to the forests by the mountain pine beetle, the peak availability of sawlogs, and output would occur within 3-5 years leading to possible further plant closures.
According to Bell, the Wood Markets Report was based on the premise that nothing was being done to protect a mid-term timber supply in the wake of the mountain pine beetle epidemic. “Over the next few years, through the work of the Chief Forester’s office and professionals across the province, we’ll be developing good options to make sure that we have a strong and vibrant forest industry moving forward.”

Good work Pat. I think the chance is there to increase the cut through increased utilization of traditionally non merch stands, bio energy plants, and increased pulp demand.
Way to go Pat, It would be inevitable that there will be a shortage in our timber supply, resulting in higher lumber prices.

I think your doing a great job selling our lumber to China. Thank you for reducing our dependency to the south.

He spoke. Lumber mills have been selling to China for many years before Pat came along.

The increase in lumber sales to China in the past few years are more because of the glut of lumber on the market, and the cheap lumber prices than on any great selling features.

China has a reputation for buying huge quantities of commodities when the prices are depressed.

Lumber Companies sold less lumber to Japan than to China in 2009, however they made a lot more money on the Japanese sales, this should give you a hint.

I notice that Pat doesnt make any mention of the fact that log sales to China in the last couple of years from BC have increased by approx 1000%. Are we going to continue to sell logs to China while we are facing a shortage of timber in BC????

I wonder if you guys have a stake in this. Because if you didn't you would not be so hey way to go Pat.
We all have a stake in this, no matter what we'd like to believe, BC is very dependent on the success of the forestry industry.
China buy cheap low value bean poles...In case you missed there is a raging sand storm in China...

The sandstorm was caused by Chinese deforestation..

China has now stopped all logging in China..They look for cheap crap, the logs/Cants are milled in China, giving them a fiber supply....

"way to go Pat"

The PAB (Public affairs bureau) sure lives on this site, PAB or uneducated rubes, take your pick...

How many times has Gordon Campbell,Colin Hansen,Shirley Bond,Pat Bell lied their faces off?

And every new lie you PAB or rubes say...

"Golly gee Andy,it must be true because they said it"

Go ahead rubes, remember these lies.."The HST is Good"

"$495 million dollar deficit maximum"

"The carbon tax is the equivelant of taking 400.000 vehicles off the road each year"

And why don`t you ask Barry Penner about section 25 of the FIPA act...

What is section 25 of FIPA?

Freedom of information and public accounts, section 25 mandates by LAW THAT ALL INFORMATION REGARDING ENVIRONMENTAL OR PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY MUST BE RELEASED IMMEDIATELY!

So why did Gordon Campbell and the BC Liberals hide the damning air quality reports with formaldehyde levels 20 times the highest acceptable standards in residential areas until one week after the election and 10 months from the date of the air tests.

You fools that accept the government spin are sick,or perhaps you are part of the 200 man public affairs bureau(PAB) that inhabit every blog, every comment section, that follow the cabinet ministers and monitor what they can say.

Ignorance is Bliss!
Typo error...FIPA,,That is (Freedom of information and privacy accounts)

"in the last couple of years from BC have increased by approx 1000%"

-Just curious if there are some numbers to back this up.. No logs out of the interior are being shipped out. Some FN wood off of the coast and thats about it.
Chris, we are just working fools, we do not have a direct stake in the industry. We work, and pay taxes. I am assuming you do too!

Being able to sell our lumber to the international market is very important for the well being of our province. We can not rely on the States. The United States has not hit bottom yet. We need to have our independence if we are going to maintain our standard of living. We need to sell our resources to the world. That is why it is important to get our oil to Kitimat so that we can turn on the tap and sell it to the world instead of the States only.

All the tree huggers and the fish kissers can say what ever they want. At the end of the day, we are all still just a clog in the wheel, and we all must sell our souls and resources to maintain our glorified slavery system. Thats the way it is, and words don't put food on our plate, unless you rely on the kindness of strangers living off of the government.

I love to see what all the people on social assistance is going to do, when the rest of us says, nope, were not going to pay for your lifestyle. You don't want to work, you can starve to death than.

I have worked all my adult life, I have a nice home, camper, fifth wheel, new truck, moderate car, go on vacation regularily. I am not going to work for the rest of my life, and will start to concentrate on the retirement plan. I work smart and hard for my money. Than to hear a person that has done nothing but talk, tell me that money is evil, and I should be concerned about the have nots. Well, boo hoo hoo hoo, and shut up and get a job.

My Pappy told me, you don't work hard in life, your not gonna amount to nothing. My Pappy taught me, that this is a young nation, and working 40 hrs a week will make you broke. You need to put in 60 hrs if you wanna get ahead. My pappy told me, life is tough, and the weak are meant to die, and only the strong should survive.

Our social fabric allows for the weak to survive, one of these days, when the social fabric rips apart, the weak will not be supported.... The weak willed are living a false world, they are failing to realize that the financial world of selling resources and manufacturing is what makes the world go around. Those who are not contributing on this, either by working directly and are providing for others are the ones who needs to realize that their liberties are being provided by the tax payers from resource hounds and manufacturers.

Thank you Pat, keep up the good work.
Northman. Look up BC Stats Exports on your search engine and it will give you all the stats you want on log exports to Mainland China. They show revenue of *0* in the year 2000 and $38 Million for 2009.

I beleive that there are a lot of logs being shipped out of the Kitwanga area to Prince Rupert, and loaded out to China in Containers. Probably some being loaded out of the Queen Charlottes also.

In any event there is a huge increase in log exports from BC so they must be coming from somewhere.
"Chris, we are just working fools, we do not have a direct stake in the industry. We work, and pay taxes. I am assuming you do too!"

Big assumption. Chris seems to hate anybody who can work and save money.
He spoke just grow hemp. Leave the trees alone mate.
I don't care what you think man. I do my own thing. . I am happy and don't have to listen to anyone. I work for myself. I never ask anyone what they do and feel it's an insult for ask. As long as you don't pay then why you care,
Pretty much confirms what I thought. Smoke another one.
Here we go again Pat Belly telling us what we want to here. He obviously has not missed too many meals or pay cheques and will be getting a big fat pension in a few years. So just feed us B.S. so we all can have false hope until we longer remember his name.
More Pat Bell spin lacking any real substance.
Yeah we need leadership and vision.

"In any event there is a huge increase in log exports from BC so they must be coming from somewhere."

-A majority of this is from private land and FN tenures. There are export restrictions on public land base timber such as woodlots, timber licneces, tree farms licences ect ect.. Your only allowed to export wood from the crown if you can prove you cant mill it localy even with that in place there is a limit to how much you can export per timbermark. As well timber that is to be exported from crown land must be singed off by the cheif forester, forests minister and the primer. So i wouldnt be freeking out about log exports.

-Scaler/Log Broker ;)
Strange how mill after mill is shut down on the island, but logging trucks continue to travel the highways.Things that make you say hmmmmmmm......
Pat Bell only tells us what we want to hear, so do not give him too much credit. The price of lumber is going up, not Pat Belly's magic wand. His back must be sore from all the patting on his back from none other than himself.
