Premier Offers Condolences to Family of Fallen P.G. Soldier

Prince George, B.C.- Premier Gordon Campbell has  issued a statement to the family and friends of  the late Corporal  Darren Fitzpatrick, offering condolences on behalf of the all British Columbians:

"On behalf of all British Columbians, I would like to extend  condolences on the death of Corporal Darren Fitzpatrick. He succumbed  on Saturday, March 20, to injuries sustained earlier in the month while on patrol in Afghanistan.

"Cpl. Fitzpatrick proudly served with the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, and had been in Afghanistan since October, on his first tour of duty.

"Today, we reflect on our gratitude for the men and women who serve our country, on Canadian soil and around the world. Canadians like Cpl. Fitzpatrick take on often dangerous jobs to protect our freedoms and help make the world a better place. British Columbians stand shoulder to shoulder in support of Cpl. Fitzpatrick's family, friends and brothers-in-arms, at this very difficult time."

Corporal Fitzpatrick had been critically wounded  on March 6th  while on patrol west of Khandahar.  He was flown  to Edmonton on Friday, and  died in the University of Alberta Hospital on Saturday   with his family at his side.
