Sad to see a young man lay down his life to improve another persons life. Thank you for making our country a proud and peaceful country.

Watched a show on the NatGeo channel last night. Very interesting on how the country was portrayed. They do not want to live in terror, the parentless families are wanting peace. The valleys are not all deserts and arid. They were lush and green. They were not growing poppies.

That is the reason why we are there, to foster the growth of peace. A big price to pay, for our countries reputation.

Too bad the low life drug dealers wants live under this sheild built by brave men and women, and be parasites to undermine our reputation of being a compasionate nation. Greedy gangsters, trying too make too much money.

Anyone using drugs of any sort just think of the crime, gangs, terrorists that you support. I would suggest that this brave soldiers death can be laid at your feet.
Unfortunately, seamutt.

The many that uses a joint or two every week, really are not the problems. thirty years ago, there was not this much drug related killings in Prince George. There were few, but not as much. So what is the difference.

The likelyhood is that organized crime has gotten so big, the principals are no longer at the street level, thus they can only see the money, and are being so well sheltered that they have no feelings for anything but to punch out the numbers to feed it up the line.

seamutt, Afghanistan is about oil not drugs

Anyone using petroleum of any sort just think of the crime, gangs, terrorists that you support.
Uh Loki everthing you use eat or wear is about petroleum. What are you going to give up first.
Both of you could use some lessons on world events ... Notwithstanding some lessons on respect
Seamutt, that may be the very point Loki is trying to make. Crime, gangs, terrorists are associated with just about everything .... religion, booze, sex, gambling, illicit drugs, legal drugs, cars, clothes, aid to the poor .... if there is a scam to be had with easy money just sitting there and gullible people, someone is going to take advantage of it.

Afghanistan has very little oil. There are those who believe that it is, however, about the building of a pipeline through Afghanistan from the oil rich "stans" to the north and then through Pakistan.

Then there are those who, in my mind, are a bit more realistic and feel that investors have to be crazy to invest in a pipeline going through a country as volatile as Afghanistan. Iran would almost be better.

I still think Russia is better, but the supplying countries do not feel that way.
Bowzone ...... respect has been paid and is being paid.

Those who knew the gentleman will hopefully be celebrating his life. For the rest of us, life goes on.

For me, this is a war story. It is waht war is all about, injury and death.

Someone died once more. My opinion is that we should learn from that.

I know not everyone shares that opinion. Many would rather give their minute or two of silence, put some flowers at our new cenotaph, and then wait for the next casualty.
I think you've all gone off the beaten track here. This story is about the brave man who paid the ultimate price. Lets not get into the argument of what resource lies where. If that's the case, it's just a vicious circle of debate.

To Cpl. FITZPATRICK and his family, our deepest condolences. We, and I think I can speak for the many appreciative people of Prince George and Canada, thank you for your bravery, courage and honor.
Well said vuk.

bowzone_mikey you have no idea!!!!!!
During WWII my uncle went off to fight the germans along with our Russian allies. Now the germans are our friends and the Russians not so much.

I have a friend who went off to fight the Japanese. China was our ally. Now the Japanese are our friends and the Chinese not so much.

I hear the President of Afghanistan is opening dialogue with the "moderate" taliban.

I so wish we could skip the war part and just jump to the being friends part. It always seems to go that way.
