Prince George, B.C.- The myPG project is entering the review stage.  The myPG project is the first long-term plan for the whole community, created with the community.
From this Saturday through to the 19th of April, the myPG team wants you to take a look at the goals that have been created by residents, and the action the City is proposing to achieve those goals.

There are several ways to get involved in the review:

  • Visit the myPG kiosk at the Pine Centre Mall  this Saturday through to April 1st
  • Visit www.mypg.ca  , the draft goals will be posted there on the 27th
  • Go to City Hall at 1100 Patricia Boulevard
  • Call 250-561-7600

You can also review the draft goals at the Prince George Public Library as the information will be available there as of Saturday the 27th.

Could we maybe just bulldoze everything from Victoria St to the Fraser river and 15th to the Nechako river and start over?
I guess not...
would definitely solve a lot of problems...
Who cares anymore?

It's not my PG, it's City Hall PG. The planners at the City are out of control. They now want to downzone land, to make land more expensive so that people will have to pay higher taxes.
I don't always agree with Mr PG, but I think you are right on this one.

Forbes Magazine has an article on the worst cites in the United States to live in, and the common thread is they all have heavy zoning restrictions and an out of control bureaucracy. Cleavland for example has something like 20 different zoning classifications and negative economic growth.

Anyone with a good idea is not going to tell it to myPG planners only to have the bureaucrats stymie it or worse yet steal the idea for their own agenda. IMO the myPG information and findings will go straight to the new 'communications manager' to see how he can spin it all to fit the bureaucratic agenda at city hall. Any entrepreneurs without political connections will find they don't fit with 'the plan'. Its most likely about building the propaganda needed for the empire building of the well connected (land owners ect) and the bureaucracy at city hall.
A road map for future corruption?
Cleveland has 20 zoning classifications and negative economic growth? So what would ever lead anyone to think that the two are connected?

Vancouver has the following zoning classifications:
1 Agricultural
39 residential
11 commercial
11 industrial
4 historical areas
7 comprehensive development

A grand total of 73!!!

Now maybe you will understand the connection with zoning and economic growth ..... the greater the number of zones, the greater the potential for economic growth. :-)

In reality, Vancouver has a common number of zones. Zones are no big deal. Every city has them. When developer want to find excuses for their onw lack of knowledge of how to get something built, they often invoke the zoning bylaws. It is just a fact of life.

They should be complaining about the banks, WorkSafeBC, and the Johnny-on-the-spot provider for their construction site to be.
The problem in PG is that the city will change the zoning to accommodate the developer.
Cheers
Or vice versa to restrict a potential for a project because the city can get more revenue if they can upzone it for a developer. A lot of land in PG could be used for things like a camp ground on the river, retail, or what have you, but the zoning discourages investment if its not downtown or if they can't afford the new lands value when it is zoned for a kind of development we already have a glut of simply because it has more tax revenue potential.

If its all about municipal revenue, the developers on the in with the city (ie downtown subsidization), and maximizing revenue for the city then a lot of good developments that would contribute in a lot of good ways indirectly to the city never see the light of day....
