Prince George, B.C.- As reported by Opinion250 last week, Conifex is now confirming it’s purchase of the Abitibi saw mills in Mackenzie.

The Quebec Court has approved the sale but there are still  some conditions to the deal. It’s expected the deal will close by the end of June.

Under the deal, Conifex will get the sawmill and planer, the newsprint plant ( which it plans to sell) and the timber rights.

The two sawmills will be combined and modernized into one operation.

Too bad Abitibi did so much irrepairable damage before this deal was done! Good riddons, don't let the door hit you on the way out!
Im a little confused.

Is there 2 sawmills and 2 planers or 2 samills and 1 planer or what????

It was previously reported that there were 2 sawmills and 2 planers.

What type of operation will they have when the dust settles???
There are 2 sawmills and 2 planers and 1 paper mill .Conifex planes on moving the assets of the site 2 sawmill and planer to the other site and combining them as site 2 is on leased land and that lease is up in 2 years or so.The paper mill will be sold off in parts and torn down ,the cogen plant will be used to produce power and used to produce steam to run the kilns for drying lumber .Mostly positive but all the paper mill job are still gone ,all in all Mackenzie has still lost hundreds of jobs
Thanks mackbc that clarifies it. Appreciate the info. At least its a start.
Great news for Mackenzie
I know it sounds great but we've heard SO many rumours and stories over the last couple of years, I won't believe it until the place is up and running.

I wonder if I can get my old steam plant job back :)
What a joke! the people that are running this place now are the same people that brought it down in the first place...do you think the future is going to look any better???? not a chance
