'nuff said.
Victoria police are "looking for a few good men". Few should not be the operative word here.
What the hell is happening to our police? There supposed to serve and protect. This has to stop, they think they are above the law and listening to the captains of these police forces think the members are doing things ok. No wonder why they wanted to take our guns away!!!!
What's even scarier is the polcie chief said this guy is well liked and respected amongst the members. Great - he's the standard they all look up to? Make sure you wear your hockey pads if you decide to visit. :)
Its definately not a new thing. I remember back when I was a teenager in Victoria, we all heard about what happened in the elevator at the police station. Guys go in okay, and come out bruised and bleeding.

Kneeing a victim in the spine with such force can lead to spinal injuries and even to paralysis from the waist down.

The cop should be fired, for his own good.
I disagree. If the guy was acting in a threatening manor, and there was fighting taking place in the vicinity, and he refused to surrender to the police, then a bit of force is required to protect the officers.

The guy in question himself claimed someone pushed his girl friend... thus implying he was upset and acting to protect her, and thus probably acting in a threatening manor when the cops arrived on the scene of the fights.

This kind of beating is much better than simply having an officer pull out a tazer and tazer the guy without questions. A knee to the back like that is not even going to hurt or leave a mark... its simply leverage to turn over a large guy. I'm no fan of the police use of force, but this is all over blown IMO and the threats to sue or an extreme over reaction.
are not or...
The police force has put this officer already on leave. That means that the superiors agree that an investigating into his excessive use of force is required.

Also, the officer has a reputation of using excessive force on at least one previous occasion, such as some of his fellow officers expressed their concern.

The man was not part of the unruly party crowd, he obeyed police orders immediately and went on the ground as asked to do.

All one has to do look at the video in slow motion.

I heard a doctor mention on the radio that broken ribs, lung punctures, kidney and spinal injury can result from being kneed in such a manner.

The police force allows kneeing only to the upper thigh area, for good reason.

They must know why they have rules to follow.

So, I choose to disagree with those who cheerfully dismiss such a regrettable incident.

Lawsuits are in the making. Who pays? Us.
kick'em once for me. go cop's.
I watched the youtube video. I have to say that in the first arrest if the person was actively resisting then the force may have been justified.

However, in the second instance the male was obeying verbal commands of the officer and not actively resisting - yet got a very very hard kick to the kidney area.

From my experience I know it is difficult to temper one's use of force especially when the adrenaline is flowing..etc... which is why police take the training necessary on use of force. I'm not trying to be an armchair quarterback on this one, but when a kid is drunk and looks afraid but is complying with the verbal demands of a fairly big cop who then kicks him in the kidneys, then yes it is excessive. I got 22 yrs in and have been in many a good scrap, but once the cuffs go on or the person obeys then its over.
