Prince George, B.C.- Power should be restored to hundreds of B.C. Hydro customers in Prince George over the next hour following outages that were caused by strong gusts of wind earlier today.
“In the downtown about 450 customers were impacted when there was a phase to phase fault” says B.C. Hydro spokesperson Bob Gammer. That means, the wind made two lines sway and they came in contact with each other.
The outage just before ten this morning meant most of downtown Prince George was without electricity. That impacted the traffic lights, and the Court house which suffered its first ever black out. “We have had lights flicker before” says one Sheriff, “but never have we lost power”. The Court House back up generator failed to provide enough juice to light up any more than one light in the rotunda.
There are still some customers south east of the airport who are without power. That is in an area bounded by Johnson and Pinko Roads, in the Alpine and Horseshoe Drive areas. Power should be restored soon.
