Prince George, B.C.- The Regional District of Fraser Fort George has approved a temporary permit for gravel crushing and screening from a site near Stone Creek.

In addition to  concerns expressed by the Ministry of the Environment, the Leidli T'enneh  requested no permit be issued until  there was an archeologicial study  completed on the site.  The hLeidli T'enneh say this site  was frequented by  Lheidli T'enneh   for many years  as an access point to the Fraser River.   Director Terry Burgess says he remembers the day when  fish camps  were set up at the site.

Regional District staff made it clear that while there is nothing to  stop the applicants from hauling gravel from the site, the application is necessary to  allow for the crushing and screening operations.

Director Dave Wilbur says  although extraction can already been done from the site, allowing crushing and screening on site will reduce truck hauling traffic.  He, along with Director Debora Munoz  agree with deferring the archeological issues  to the Ministry of Mines so that issue can be resolved to the satisfaction of the Lheidli-T'enneh and the

The temporary permit would be for 2 years.

The applicants are willing to limit the number of days the crusher and screener are allowed to operate, limit the days of operation to  Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m  for 4 weeks a year  and  build a 7.6 metre high berm to mitigate noise from this operation.
