Prince George, B.C.- Tomorrow, more than 400 delegates including First Nations, industry and community leaders, exhibitors and others will be in Prince George for the Minerals North 2010 conference.
The three day conference is designed on the theme “opportunity rocks” describing the potential for the industry to create thousands of new jobs .
The conference will outline the vast potential of the industry in Northern BC and discuss the benefits and challenges of expanding the industry.
Those challenges include the mine review process, developing good working relationships and partnerships with First Nations and the economic issues that determine the level of exploration and investment in new mines.
The conference Co-Chair is Katherine Scouten, VP Economic Development for Initiatives Prince George. She says there is so much potential for Northern B.C. when it comes to mining, “The full potential of Northern BC may still be largely untapped but there is absolutely no doubt about the role the mineral exploration and mining industries will play in growing the economies of Northern BC.”
Glenn Wonders, VP Corporate Affairs and Sustainability for Terrane Metals also co-chairing the conference is confident, “The industry and community interest in this event is indicative of the strength of mineral exploration and mining development in Northern B.C. When you see the full involvement of industry along with education, local government, First Nations, arts and culture, it demonstrates the sector‟s renewal within the region.”
The conference also includes a trade show and schools program to help introduce elementary and post-secondary students to the industry and career opportunities
