Prince George, B.C.- Today’s the day we are invited to get outside and help clean up the City by picking up litter.

“This event helps showcase the great pride that our community has for our city,” says Mayor Dan Rogers.

“We encourage everyone to pitch in and assist to make Prince George clean to the core. We also want to thank all those who pitch in on an annual basis."

From 10-4 today , groups will be picking up litter from neighbourhood parks, school yards, boulevards, and along trails and streets.

Garbage bins will be set up at various locations around the city, for litter and garbage collection only. Garden and yard waste can be taken free of charge to the Foothills Landfill site or the Quinn Street and Vanway Transfer & Recycle Stations.

Bin locations include:
• 5th and Killoren
• Ospika Blvd.- Andres Road
• 3rd Ave and Watrous
• 2nd and George St.
• College Heights Secondary School
• Parkridge Heights (Bunce Road and Park Drive)
• Hudson’s Bay Slough (Queensway)

Anoyone north of the Nechako River can leave bags on the side of the road for pick up by City crews, or take the bags of garbage to the Foothills Landfill.

The Spring Clean Up event is a partnership between the City of Prince George, Regional District of Fraser Fort George, Metro Waste Paper Recovery, REAPS, Waste Management, Westbin, and TimHortons.

Who will pick up fridges and freezers dumped outside city boundaries? I have taken one to the dump and been told I have to pay a fee, even though I have done the work of cleaning up mess in the Regional District on my own initiative.
Something is rotten in Denmark.
Sadly, the City's decision to raise the transfer station fees from $2 to $6 over the past couple years will result in more illegal dumping. The more the City raises the fee, the more you'll see it.
These bins are not in place for people to dump their own personal garbage. I watched many people dump their own garbage in the one on Park Dr. They should be embarrased all they had to do was go a about a km further and there is a city recycle station guess their too cheap to pay the fee.
It was an awesome day for spring clean up in the Millar Addition. We had approximately 14 adults and 10 kids show up and we got lots done in 3 hours. Thank you to all who came out to help!
I appreciated having the bins available. Cleaned up the park behind my house and another area that was bugging me. Why this isn't a regular thing is beyond me. I'd rather my city taxes paying for free dumping than downtown revitalization, and corporate welfare, or IPG, or any number of things. I pay a lot for city taxes and IMO receive very little for it... a clean city would be nice, and free dumping to keep it clean should be a priority over many other things the city and regional district waste our tax dollars on.

Dumping garbage should be free. Otherwise those who can't afford it will leave the mess for the rest of us to clean up.

Also I bet PG has the lowest public garbage cans per capita in all of BC. Its a disgrace to our city and I'd like to see it changed someday.
