Anne Martin Receives Special Honour

Prince George, B.C.- Former City Councillor Anne Martin has been  given the highest  honour  the City can bestow.  She has been granted "Freedom of the City.  The award presented at the Volunteer Recognition banquet last night in Prince George.

"This was an easy decision amongst Council, and a very well deserving accolade to one of our community’s greatest leaders," said Mayor Dan Rogers. "We are extremely lucky to have such a passionate, caring, and dedicated individual striving to make Prince George better every day."

Anne has served as City Councillor, Regional District Board Director, Vice Chair of the University of Northern BC Board of Governors, President and Director of the Two Rivers Art Gallery, and member of a long list of community organizations and Council committees.
 
She now joins a select group of Freeman including former Mayor’s Colin Kinsley, John Backhouse, Garvin Dezell, Carrie Jane Gray, Harold Moffat , and the Rocky Mountain Rangers Royal Canadian Army Cadets Corp, Canadian Forces Station Baldy Hughes, Pastor Lance Morgan, Ted Williams, Chief Justice Wilson, and Peter Wilson, City Solicitor.
 
Anne was also  awarded  an Outstanding Volunteer Award of Merit  which recognizes individuals in the community who have made a significant contribution to numerous recreation and/or community service areas, for a minimum of 15 years.  Jo-Anne Freimuller also   received this award.

Recreation Award of Merit- Recognizes individuals in the community who have made an outstanding contribution to the recreation field, in one area, for a minimum of 10 years.

Outstanding Community Service Award- Recognizes individuals in the community who have made an outstanding contribution to a community service for a minimum of 10 years.

Youth of the Year Award- Annually recognizes a 13-18 year old youth that have made an outstanding contribution to the community. Nominations must come from the community and the school.
