Prince George B.C. – The second phase of River Road upgrades is up for discussion this evening at the regular meeting of Prince George City Council… Council will be asked to award the tender for the work to IDL Projects. That company submitted the lowest bid for the project at $2.627 million dollars.
Also on the agenda this evening, Council will receive an update from the Railway Museum. The Museum had requested a five year moratorium on rent to help it through a difficult financial time. Council had approved a one year break of the annual $1 thousand dollar fee.
B.C. Assessment will be on hand to make a presentation. Overall, the assessed value of properties in Prince George has dropped about $154 million dollars since 2009.
Council will receive a report on how new rules for funding for wildfire fuel mitigation programs may impact planned efforts to remove trees killed by the mountain pine beetle. The new rules not only change how much a community can receive, but also rates projects on levels of urgency.
The Downtown Partnership (formerly the Mayor’s Task Force for a Better Downtown) requests a move towards the development of a residential wood innovation comprehensive district. This area would be bounded by Winnipeg Street on the west, Victoria on the east side, 4th Avenue on the north, and 11th Avenue on the south. Within this block, construction of wood frame apartments, townhouses and higher density development would be preferred. The move will not take place until there has been extensive consultation with the public in general and the residents of the Crescents in particular.
