Obviously the only requirement of the GG is to protect the rule of law in our democratic process, and as such the modern version is a complete failure as per things like the HST. We might as well get rid of the pretense... time to remove the monarchy from their constitutional role in Canada and replace it with actual checks and balances that work in the modern world.
IMO the Crown has long ago abdicated its responsibility to Canadians.

By definition, the crown rules. They are not responsible to anyone or anything save marrying their distant cousin to solidify a treaty or seal a trade deal.
They are called blue bloods, because real people that marry outside their family have red blood.
I thought Trudeau and the Queen took Canada out of the British Imperial Commonwealth?
