Terasen Gas has applied to the British Columbia Utilities Commission for an increase in the price of natural gas.
If granted a price increase, a Prince George residential bill will increase by about 5.6 %.

For example, if you currently pay about  $1280.00 dollars a year, your  bill will increase by about $62 to $72 dollars per year. You will also expect to pay more in the form of the Franchise Fee, which is 3.09% of the total costs of the commodity and the delivery charge, in this case, adding about $2.20 to your annual bill.  With 32 thousand customers in Prince George that means the City will gain about $70 thousand dollars a year from the Franchise fee.

Terasen says it is seeking the rate increase because of anticipated demand in the USA for natural gas brought on by an expected hot summer.

Terasen President Randy Jespersensays “While our strategy  of hedging and gas storage helped shield customers from market volatility in the spring, we now are facing the prospect of paying more for the natural gas commodity than we are currently charging our customers “ .

The application asks that the increase take effect on July 1st, 2005.

Gas prices are going to go up but last i heard proffits for Terasen were in the millions last year. Wy cant they have a program like the furnace oil programs of years ago and even the hydro programs where you get a reduced rate for home heating. Espically in areas like prince George where you have no choice but to turn on the heat. Just think what would happen if you cant afford it , terasen would probably loose a few customers each year not to other ways of heating but to lets say Death.I have problems with the ever rising costs other than the actual cost of the gas. Its the delivery costs and the monthly rental of just having you conected .I dont use any gas from may to october but still get a min 15.00 a month charge plus tax. As someone who has worked in the gas trade for the last 20 years i can remember when they would install the meters for free . Now they have everyone on side sucking us into O clean air fuel they jamb us all. Maby we should look after ourselves and use what we can . Just think what the skies would look like on top of industry polution if we used coal or even went back to wood fire places
