Terasen Gas has applied to the British Columbia Utilities Commission for an increase in the price of natural gas.
If granted a price increase, a Prince George residential bill will increase by about 5.6 %.
For example, if you currently pay about $1280.00 dollars a year, your bill will increase by about $62 to $72 dollars per year. You will also expect to pay more in the form of the Franchise Fee, which is 3.09% of the total costs of the commodity and the delivery charge, in this case, adding about $2.20 to your annual bill. With 32 thousand customers in Prince George that means the City will gain about $70 thousand dollars a year from the Franchise fee.
Terasen says it is seeking the rate increase because of anticipated demand in the USA for natural gas brought on by an expected hot summer.
Terasen President Randy Jespersensays “While our strategy of hedging and gas storage helped shield customers from market volatility in the spring, we now are facing the prospect of paying more for the natural gas commodity than we are currently charging our customers “ .
The application asks that the increase take effect on July 1st, 2005.
