April 2010 Weather...Fickle....Says Meteorologist

Prince George, B.C. - Environment Canada Meteorologist Jim Steele says April of 2010 could be described as "a bit on the fickle side with some very changeable conditions".
Here is his monthly report:
The changeable conditions ranged from very warm, to on the chilly side, throw in a bit of rain, a bit of snow and even a thunderstorm and you have it covered.
On the temperature side of things, the month got off to a typical start with normal temperatures, this cooled dramatically during the second week with well below normal conditions, establishing the coolest temperatures of the month on the 10th. Things turned around by the 145h with a burst of early summer conditions, afternoon temperatures climbing into the upper teens and low twenties with the warmest days of the month on the 19th and 20th. The last week of the month saw temperatures return to normal late April values. In then end with the combination of the cool spell and the warm spell, monthly temperatures ended up just about right on normal.
On the precipitation side of things, it was off to a typical start with some showers and a bit of snow, then dry until the end of the last week of the month. The April showers did materialize during the last week with the majority of the monthly precipitation arriving during this period. In the end, similar to the temperatures, the precipitation was just about right on normal.
Temperatures
- Average daily high of 12.2 was above the normal of 11.4 degrees C.
- Average daily low of -1.7 was below the normal of -1.1 degrees C.
- Mean temperature of 5.3 was near the normal 5.2 degrees C.
- Warmest Day on the 19th with a maximum temperature of 23.5 degrees
- Coldest day on the 4th with an overnight minimum of -7.7 degrees
Precipitation
- Total precipitation of 35.0 mm was slightly above the normal of 32.2 mm.
- Total Snowfall of 4.0 cm was slightly below the normal of 6.3 cm
- Total rainfall of 28.3 mm was slightly above the normal of 25.9 mm
- Measurable precipitation on 11 days near the normal of 10 days
- Greatest snowfall one day 3.0 cm on the 24th
- Greatest rainfall one day 8.0 mm on the 24th

· New record daily maximum of 19.3 on the 18th. Previous daily
maximum for the 18th, 19.0 set in 1991.
· New record daily maximum of 23.5 on the 19th. Previous daily
maximum for the 19th, 20.8 set in 1991.
· New record daily maximum of 23.0 on the 20th. Previous daily
maximum for the 20th, 21.1 set in 2005.

- Total precipitation of the year to date is 94.4 mm, below the normal of 149.0 mm
