Prince George, B.C.- The anti- HST initiative has reached the 10% threshold of signatures in two of the three Prince George area ridings.

Regional Campaign organizer Mike Summers, reports canvassers have reached the 10% mark in both Prince George-Mackenzie and Prince George-Valemount:

Prince George-Valemount

Canvassers will continue to collect names in all three ridings, as the initiative wants to ensure it has enough valid signatures to offset any errors or disqualified signatures.

The initiative must collect 10% of the registered voters in every riding in the Province. If that is accomplished, the Provincial Government must either consider the bill to abolish the HST or, put the question to a referendum.

The initiative has until July 5th to collect the necessary signatures.

How do you like that tom?????
bet you will try to say we bullied our cooperative people to achieve this. YOU are the bully here and I am thiking i ts time to make a complaint to opinion 250 about YOU. I for one am sick and tired of your name calling and the way you reply. I am going to be out collecting signatures even though we have won this riding too. Come on tom lets hear your reply. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL. I hope you go broke and I intend to continue on to that end. If I ever find out your business I will arrange to put protesters at your front door. The ilks of people like you make me puke you rich corporate PIG
Although Tom has his own opinions which I really don't agree with I think you are being a little too hard on poor ol Tom.
Jeez mattyc...they have pills for that now, ya know?
Chill baby...chill!
I don't agree with much 'ol Tom has to say either, but this IS called "Opinion 250"!
Welcome to the Banana Republic of BC. You know what. I am not gonna spend any money, and watch and see where this is going to go.

I think we are heading into political turmoil, and our province is going to be handed to a bunch of school teachers.... again. Good news, property values are gonna plummet.

Thanks Gordo, for the good years.
Awesome news! Kill the HST so that the government will have less money to fund our social programs. You though health care was inaccessible before? Wait until there's no money to fund new nurses, new doctors or new clinics. You thought our education system was in trouble? Just wait until all the funds are funneled to the teachers since there won't be enough money to pay them and to run the schools.

I'd really like one of the petition signers to tell us where they expect the government revenues to come from if there is no HST? Forestry is dead, we're losing billions in stumpage revenue. User fees? That's a solution that I'd like to see implemented. Well? Solutions please.
If anyone needs to be booted from this site, it's mattyc. Most of the posters are pretty respectful of others, but you constantly step over the line. The first post is a great example of this.
Well the way I see it there will not be anyone left to be treated, we are all taxed to death already as it is, I guess they will just give themselves another BIG FAT raise while we all either starve or freeze to death then the Liberals will be happy. They are really working to see their pockets are lined with gold, and to hell with anybody else. Keep signing the petition people of B.C.
The government gets plenty of money for social programs. The problem is waste, high wages and priorities like the new roof on bc place. They always need more, they will always need more and they will never have enough. Instead of being frugal through the recession our government ...spent...spent and spent some more. Now they are trying to get more money to hide the true deficit. Things like 5 planes to go to the Site C photo shoot is WASTEFULL SPENDING. This is the problem with government. When will we hear what the true costs of the Olympics were? When will we hear where the over 50 million dollars went from BC Hydro. 6 billion dollar deficit from millions a few years before. Am I the only one who sees a huge problem?
I agree with the user fees... especially for healthcare. The only way you are going to make people take responsibility for their health is to hit them in the wallet.
Good post, faxman.
mattyc says "I hope you go broke and I intend to continue on to that end. If I ever find out your business I will arrange to put protesters at your front door."

I suppose thats another one of your "non-threats"?

Ive said it before - if Matty is the voice of the anti-hst then I am 100% in support of the hst.
Please forgive interceptor for his post. Thank you to all the canvassers for stepping up to the plate and collecting names for British Columbians. I am appreciative and proud of all of you.
Bad post faxman. Fearmongering. You make it sound like the hst is (or will be) the governments only revenue stream. The sky is falling! The sky is falling! LOL.
mattyc,

as I have said before, your a discredit to your cause.

One thing for you to consider, Ben knows your identity, you claim to be a canvasser, and you make posts like that.

I wonder if Elections BC would be interested in knowing what kind of crap canvassers spew?

I suspect 95% plus of the canvassers are good people, its to bad somebody like you has to give them a black eye.

Wow Faxman!

Socialism is your solution to the provinces financial problems?

Blindly raising taxes is your solution?

What happens when 12% HST doesn't cover the bills?

15%, 18%,25%, when do you think we should question our provincial government on fiscal responsibility, Faxman?

We already live in a socialist province and country for that matter, like it or not. Healthcare, education, infrastructure, the social safety net, etc. The cost of these things like everything else continues to rise.

The solution? Either demand the government stops taking care of people from cradle to grave and cut services, or suck up the inevitable tax increases to fund everything I mentioned above.

Personally, I'd be ok with going to a user-fee type of system, but most would likely disagree.

Some people on O250 may have a hard time
understanding this article. I think it
hits the nail on the head.
Stompin, whatever Matty says here on this site has nothing to do with his behaviour while out collecting signatures on the petition. Elections BC is not interested in what Matty says here on this site, why should they? Why would Ben care who Matty is? Again what ever Matty says here has nothing to do with what Matty is doing while canvassing. If Matty was causing trouble out there while canvassing don't you think people would be reporting it? I'm sure all the other canvassers including Matty are good people. Matty is not giving any of the canvassers a black eye. The only black eyes I see being given are from you and all the rest of those who will personally benefit from the proposed HST. Give your head a shake man!

Matty like many others including myself will definately not support any business we know to have supported this tax shift from the businesses in our communities to the customers who spend their money there.
lost it all is bang on...next stop for the HST...15%
Believe it.
"Socialism is your solution to the provinces financial problems?"

Huh?

All I said was that the government needs the funds to run our social programs. I also asked you for an alternate solution. Well? Where is your solution?

It's easy to rant and rave and rail against any new tax but the fact of the matter is, we're all sucking on the government's teat in one way or another.
I didn't think it was possible to defend mattyc, but Dragon proved me wrong. mattyc is not a guy that needs apologizing for, nor does he need anyone's encouragement to continue to spew the garbage he does.
Dragonmaster,

if you cant see the discredit that mattyc does to your cause then I tend to believe that your as well are part the 5% of not so good supporters.

Taking a simple 1st step petition and notching it up to threats and attacks helps your cause? Allowing proven rebels with a serious temper problem to go door to door? Somebody who has proven he does not have the mental maturity to accept that his opinion is no the only opinion?

As I have said before and posted links to, there are already complaints to Election BC about some canvassers actions, one would think that after that a registered canvasser would be a little more accountable for their actions. He proudly carries your flag and you proudly support his actions?

I know this, if this person represented a cause I we seriously invested in I would flush out who he is and park him. One bad apple can ruin a whole barrel.

anybody think this mower would have trouble selling in BC?

Lets not get side tracked. Two of the three ridings in this area have gone over the 10% and are well on their way to the 15%. This is good work by the canvassers.

Insofar as to where the Government will get its money from, maybe people should stop and take a breath. Where the hell did they get if from before the HST. If the Petition was as sucess then the Government would have to reinstate the PST on business, and it would continue to get money from this tax. The big Corporations would have to continue to pay that tax rather than have it transferred to the consumer.

Anyone who thinks large Corportations cannot afford this tax is just kidding themselves. The Govenrment will miss out on a few billion that they hoped to pick up with this tax, however they havent been able to figure out how many billions they will get with the Carbon Tax, so I suggest that will not be short of money.

We always hear about Health Care, and Education, usually from people who dont know what the hell they are talking about. We have problems in these areas, however money is only one of them.

How come when people whine about health care they never talk about how much money is transferred from the Federal Government to the Province for health care. Is this a state secret, or do they just not know.

How much money is collected from Gas Taxes, Gambling, Income Tax, Royalties, Stumpage, etc; etc; etc;. Who the hell knows how much money the Province has or where it is being spent.

I gaurantee you one thing. NO one on this site knows, because they have never taken the time to find out. The BC Government has more money that it needs without implementing the HST. What it needs most is to become fiscally responsible.

Thats the bottom line. The rest is all Horse S..t.

Have a nice day
Dragonmaster - Matty like many others including myself will definately not support any business we know to have supported this tax shift from the businesses in our communities to the customers who spend their money there.

I absolutely agree with Dragonmaster.
But it seems for Gordo & friends the easiest way, so let the consumer pay instead of the corporations.
