Prince George, B.C. -  Prince George has received  $81,271 in carbon tax dollars from the Province.  The money handed out to local governments who are committed to becoming carbon-neutral by 2012. The funding was provided through B.C.’s Climate Action Revenue Incentive program.

Here are the amounts delivered to neighbouring  communities:

  • Mackenzie: $14,613
  • McBride $1,218
  • Vanderhoof  $5474
  • Quesnel $24,626

This is the second round of funding provided through this program. In 2009, approximately $1.06 million in CARIP funding was provided to local communities for carbon taxes from July 1, 2008 to Dec. 31, 2008. The current funding is from Jan. 1, 2009 to Dec. 31, 2009.

What a windfall of revenue for our comunities.
Cheers
WE will never, ever become carbon neutral...sounds good in an ideal world, unfortuately we don't live in an ideal world..
What happens if PG isn't carbon neutral by 2012? Do they have to give the money back?
Tell Victoria to keep it. The costs of actually being carbon neutral are far more than 80k a year. And it will never actually happen.

Governments love a war with no real enemy and no real end - the War on Drugs, the War on Terror, now the War on Carbon. What a crock.
What a bunch of BS. Everything is made out of Carbon.Gore just built himself another 9 million dollar mansion on the waterfront with the profits on this BS.
yes bc will be green !! idiots !! one stupid prov rippings us off !! go see gordon house and tell me he is green !!! yea with our money !!! this is criminal what they are doin !
Ya I hear ya Seamutt. It is the average working stiff that is stuck with the bill while these criminals rape us. Carbon tax, HST, GST and the crappy thing is we are even taxed on our tax. I would not mind so much if the cash wasn't squandered like these drunken sailors we call our honorable politicians. Honorable is a real leap in imagination.
The carbon tax is a bad, bad tax. The only people that like it are the idle fairies and their friends.

I guess they should have lots more money to put up more signs.
The government givith and the government taketh away. From where I sit it's mostly taketh away.
Drunken sailors spend their own money. Politicians spend our money. Doncha know the difference?
ya BC will be green, and nobody have a job, and they all gone to brown Alberta.

all you guys that signed on the HST band wagon will be wondering why there is no health care.

My friend who is typically left of center even thinks that HST is a solution. Geez, its an easy consumer tax. and keeps our income tax down. No brainer to me.

Ah, its all going to hell in a hand basket. I'm clamping down on the spending and save up during the NDP regime, and buy cheap property in five years.
govt say thank you to the poor person who cant afford a full tank of gas but has to give to f,,,kin a holes like them !!! what has happened to us??????
The answer to that is voter apathy and citizen complacency.
We did it to ourselves.
We did it by not voting for the alternatives.
"Oh, but the alternatives are not qualified."
Pat Sell is Qualified?
Dick Harris is qualified?
What qualifies Shirley Bond for highways ministry?

Non-Partisan Party!
Vote only for independents.
Get someone in that is just hanging on tooth and nail so they are always worried about recall. Do not vote any major party. No NDP, no Conservative, no lieberal, not even the marijuana party.

This way, they are all on their toes in a constant state of unease. They will have to check the ego at the door every day.
Yeah, vote independants. Watch government grind to a halt. Everyone too scared and disorganized to do anything.
Better than the waste and self indulgence we have going on now.

I would rather a slower and more cautious approach, especially when every project has 7 or more zeros attached.
I would rather have actual accountability than the lip service we get now.
I would rather the electorate fear for their seat every moment than feel they are untouchable.
I would rather be represented than dictated to.

They have managed to piss up not only our economic viability, but also that of our children and our grand children.
"I would rather be represented than dictated to."

The problem there is that you can't please all of the people all of the time.

Sometimes it's not about doing what's popular. It's about doing what's right. Those two things are not always the same.

Yes, having the candidates in a constant state of fear (as you put it) really lends itself to getting things done... not.

Vote independent? Not in my lifetime.
cap the salaries ,independant audits randomly,no perks, complete tax disclosure, and impeachment of any of those fools !! at anytime !it a start
All that, and constant public scrutiny and second-guessing to boot. Politics sounds like a great career!
"Sometimes it's not about doing what's popular. It's about doing what's right."

Doing the "right" thing is not a political mandate. Getting oneself elected and rewarding your donors is definitely a political thing.

No, one cannot please all the people all the time. Pleasing only your corporate buddies at the expense of those you are supposed to represent is not what you were elected to do.

A layman's definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. By that definition, every voter in Canada is certifiable.

We need to do something completely different than we have in the past. The only achievable thing that seems viable to me in this regard is to take my suggestion to heart. Do you have another viable alternative or do you just want to shoot down everyone attempts to cure the issue?

I would even vote for Mr pg if he were an independent in my riding. We do not agree on most things. Maybe He just prefers to be contrary and adversarial. That could be a powerful personality in the house.

You have refuted just about every suggestion, not just mine: what do you propose?
If you are not able to make a suggestion, then I suggest you keep your nay saying down a tad.
"If you are not able to make a suggestion, then I suggest you keep your nay saying down a tad."

Gee, thanks for your advice. Should I pass all my comments to you before I post them to make sure they meet your approval?

If you're going to propose a 'solution' which nobody will do (i.e. vote independents), then what kind of a solution is that? I tend to be kind of a realist that way.

No, instead of throwing my vote away, I'll stick with the established parties, as will most people.

There is no 'perfect' system, and gosh darn it, sometimes decisions will be made by the governing party that I don't agree with. Some I will. I won't pretend there's a system out there which will meet all my needs as a voter. So no, I don't have a solution... but I would suggest that you don't either.
