QUESNEL, B.C. – After three and a half months of work, the Fraser River Footbridge will opened to the public Tuesday.
Work on the bridge began January 18 and involved a significant facelift.

Much of the decking as well as many of the truss members and metal connectors were replaced. While the bridge is open, there is more work to be done, including entrance improvements.

Council will also review an architectural lighting feature.

The City received $1,759,000 from Western Economic Diversification Canada under the Community Economic Diversification Initiative (CEDI), a component of the federal government’s Mountain Pine Beetle Program.

The Quesnel Community and Economic Development Corporation played a major role in securing this grant. The City budgeted the remaining $400,000 as its share of the $2.1 million project budget.

While not yet complete, it is anticipated the project will come in well under budget, reducing the amount the City will need to contribute.

The 80-year-old foot bridge is a vital part of the Riverfront Trail network. The City thanks residents for their patience during this infrastructure rehabilitation project.

Old Cameron Street Bridge is still in pieces. Slowly rotting away. Hmmm that was money well spent. I wonder if this is another folly by the heritage society.
I wonder if they incorporated suicide prevention into the renvations to the Quesnel foot bridge. Apparently there has been a number of people who have decided to end it all and jump off that bridge.
