The Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CIS) heard UNBC's proposal for acceptance in men's and women's basketball at its AGM Tuesday afternoon in Victoria. UNBC will find out Thursday afternoon if its bid is successful. A 75 per cent vote is required for acceptance.
UNBC was represented by President Dr. George Iwama, former men's basketball coach Zane Robison and Prince George Mayor Dan Rogers.
“I think it went very well. There was a lot of preparation that went into it. We talked about the community support and how that laid the foundation of us being successful now and how it will help us in the future. The questions were pretty predictable. They talked about very budgetary things and it was generic enough where we thought we answered them very well” stated Robison.
Canada West also heard application bids from Vancouver Island University and UBC Okanagan.
Thompson Rivers and Fraser Valley have also requested to be full members as their probationary periods have ended. Mount Royal in Calgary and Grant MacEwan in Edmonton have also expressed interest in joining Canada West.
