Prince George, B.C.-  It is  Mother's Day, the  day we can all say thanks to the women in our lives who have made a difference.

According to Statistics Canada, last year, there were 2.7 million couples  in Canada with at least one child under age 16 at home.

In 2009, the majority of these families were dual-earners, one in five (495,000) had one employed parent and one stay-at-home parent.  In 88% of those cases, it was the mother who stayed home.
There remains a sizeable earnings gap between Canadian women with and without children.
On average, the earnings of women with children were 12% less than those of women without children, and this gap increased with the number of children: with one child, the gap was 9%; with two children, it was 12%; and with three or more children, 20%.
In 2007, there were 367,864 births registered in Canada.  This was up 3.7% from 2006 and the fastest annual increase since 1989.

Happy Mother's Day to all - and a special tribute to those who look after children, whether their own, or other peoples' (daycare workers, teachers, etc); it can never be overstated - our children are our future, and "mothering" is the most important job of all!
I would give anything to be able to spend just one more day with my mom (and dad too).
