Prince George, B.C.- Access to physicians is one of the key concerns identified in the most recent public consultation by Northern Health.
The final report on the series of meetings, “Let’s Talk About Primary Health Care: Discuss the Future of Basic Health Care in Your Community,” has been released . The report is based on information gathered last fall during public consultation in 18 Northern Health communities.
In addition to accessing physicians, other issues identified include:
- Primary care innovation, including technology, a team approach to care, and new ways of supporting those living with chronic disease
- Access to specialized services
- Support for the elderly
- Mental health and addictions support
- Health promotion/education and
- Pollution
“A strong primary health care system is a cornerstone of Northern Health’s vision through 2015,” said Dr. Charles Jago, Northern Health Board chair. “Information provided by northern residents through this set of consultations will help guide Northern Health’s Board and senior management with their planning and priorities.”
“I and the consultation team appreciate the time so many northern residents took to give us their feedback,” said Suzanne Johnston, Northern Health’s Vice President, Clinical Programs and Chief Nursing Officer. “In many cases people travelled long distances to attend our meetings, and we want everyone to know that their comments have been heard and will be used to shape the direction of health care in the North.”
