Feds To Help Pay Ice Jam Damage Bills

Prince George, B.C.- The ice jam and floods of 2007 may seem a distant memory to some, but the Federal Government has just come across with more dollars to cover some of the damage.

The Federal Minister of Safety, Vic Toews has announced the Federal Government will cost share eligible provincial bills that were racked up through damage caused by the flooding in December of 2007. The Province has indicated the initial estimate of the damage caused by the ice jam and flooding to be in the $7.5 million dollar range.

The City continues to apply for flood mitigation funding. There are a number of projects already in the works, including the second phase of upgrades to River Road.

Hopefully they can find a way to make some of that money to fixing up the damage to the bridges in the Cottenwood Island Park?

The fact that they have not received funding has been there excuse for not fixing the park.

I think that is a shame that the City has such an attitude of lack of care of our property.

It's a park...who gives a whoey. Fix River Road. The businesses depend on that road.

My Thoughts. What business depends on the road?. They fought the City tooth and nail to leave the bloody road alone, however the City had $5 Million from the Federal Government under the so called Pacific Gateway Fund, and along with the $5 Million thrown in by the City we now have a $10 Million upgrade, that we dont need.

There is very little business on river road that needs such an expensive upgrade. We culd have used the money for roads or infrastructure on City roads.

They could have left the road alone and dredged a deep channel at the confluence of the two rivers to solve the problem but our local rocket scientists know better.

if the party seems to add funds then there is an effect on thier behalf ,the monies allocated are thought thru carefully and LIBERAL RIDINGS MUST SEE HARPER MONEY..... THUS THE ILLUSIAISN OF FEDRAL HELP TO A TORN POOR NORHTERN LIBERAL TOWN ! MAN MY SPELLING SUCKS BUT ITS TIME TO WAKE UP
