Prince George, B.C.- Mr. P.G. is ready to  welcome more  tourists and if current numbers are any indication,  there will be more  visitors to greet this year than last.  Year to date visitor numbers in Prince George are up 9.6% over the same period in 2009.

The visitor centre at the junction of Highway 97 and Highway 16 is open 10:00am to 6:00pm seven days a week. The downtown visitor centre on 1st Avenue is open 8:00am to 8:00pm seven days a week for the summer season.

In 2009 this location saw over 8,000 visitors, approximately 40% of the total traffic through Prince George visitor centres. The majority of travelers are from British Columbia (25%), Europe (22%) and the United States (11%). Last year 8,500 room nights were generated by tourists at Prince George visitor centres.

Both centres provide information on what to see and do in the Prince George area, as well as throughout Northern BC. Staff are Tourism BC and World Host trained and will be taking on new projects this year such as geo-caching to help enhance visitor experiences around the city. Staff are also promoting various attractions included in the Golden Raven Cultural Experiences around Prince George and throughout the northern region. This year Barkerville Historic Site and Fort St. James National Historic Site, each a two hour drive from Prince George and together attracting nearly 100,000 visitors per year, have been added to the core seven attractions under the Golden Raven Program.

This year marks nearly 40 years that visitor services have been located at the 16 and 97 junction, a location that has become a traditional meeting place.

That makes 58%. That means 42% are from elsewhere. That is a significant number. The rest of Canada? Or are the provinces separated?
Well, it sure is a good thing IPG implemented the hotel tax
good question gus. i find it hard to believe that the number of visitors from europe was almost equal to the number of visitors from this province.
8,500 room nights generated. Is that some metaphysical compilation to justify the hotel tax? Lots had their RV's and Lots were simply stopping in PG in the morning and passing through. The word is out amoungst the tourists that the best thing to do in PG is keep your doors locked, stay out of the downtown area, and keep driving. I've talked to many while on the job and I have to be honest with them when advising them which parts of the city they should refrain from going to.
What your not directing them to the VLA, its such a sort drive.
8000 Visitors a year would be 21 per day. Or maybe a total of 50 per day at both sites.

I think the formula that the tourist bureau uses to get their numbers is for every one person who signs the book there are 10 who dont sign, so therefore if we had 20,000 signatures there would have been 200,000 people who went through or came to Prince George last year.

Dont recall seeing that many out of Province license plates last year, but what the hell, you cant dispute these numbers.

Or can you???
