City Hall says the mayor's trip to China is already producing results.

According to a release, some heavy hitters with the Chinese Olympic Committee will be coming here to look at  our facilities to plan for the 2010 Olympics.

Mayor Colin Kinsley and City Manager George Paul were lined up to have discussions with Dr. CHEN Gong, Governor of Chaoyang District of Beijing. The Governor then had his Foreign Affairs office arrange meetings with the Chinese Skating Association and the Chinese Ski Association.

The meetings with Wang Yitao, a member of the Chinese Olympic Committee; Member of the All-China Sports Federation; President of the Chinese Ski Association and Director General of the Winter Sports Administration Center of China went extremely well.

As a result of the meeting, Mr. Wang is now planning a trip to Prince George to look at our facilities. Although his primary interest is in training facilities for biathlon and cross country skiing, Mr. Wang has indicated that he would like to look at other facilities for his colleagues responsible for curling, short track speed skating, hockey and figure skating.

City officials will be holding further meetings with Mr. Wang and his colleagues in Torino, as he and a number of other Chinese officials will be attending the Prince George reception in B.C./Canada House on February 23rd.

The City’s discussions with Mr. Yang Dong, Secretary, External Affairs of the Chinese Skating Association were also well received.

Well that doesn't appear to be making our economy any better does it? If a few people come here to train, that justifys all the money spent going to China? Better be at least 3000 of them and hope they stay for 6 months at least.
The success of any endeavour will be in the fruit. Time will tell. Percy
The result will be the same as the trip to Japan to study snow removal. Colin will have a good time testing sake.
