Prince George, B.C.- Three people are in custody following what is believed to be one of the largest grow op busts in B.C.

Yesterday, RCMP executed a search warrant on a property near Eaglet Lake, about 40 kms north east of Prince George.   There, they found 20 green houses with approximately 18 thousand marijuana plants in various stages of growth a crop said to be worth about $2.2 million dollars. Police also seized two industrial sized heaters and 2 power generators.

Twenty officers were involved in the bust, including the Emergency response team, which was sent in first to secure the area. “It has been our experience that when there is a larg grow op, there is a likelihood of weapons and violence” says Constable Lesley Smith of the Prince George RCMP detachment. She says   ERT secured the scene and the rest of the investigators came on site. There were no weapons found on site.

The property   is accessible by a forest service road, but RCMP   used   their Air Services helicopter to get to the remote location.

Constable Smith says there were two army tents set up on site for the use of those who were tending this crop.   Although three were arrested (one after being tacked by a police dog) there were signs the “camp” was being used by several more.

Charged  with the Cultivation of Marihuana under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act are:
  • 37 yr old Bing Lung WONG of Vancouver,
  • 41 yr old Ye Zhi QIANG  from Quebec
  • 29 yr old Khue Ba VU  also from Quebec.
Constable Smith says they know who owns the property and the investigation continues so it is not clear at this point if  further charges will be laid.

WOOHOO WTG!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
18,000 plants? C'mon, I'm sure it's just for their personal use and / or selling to their close friends. No organized crime involvement at all. Leave these poor people alone!
Seriously though, good job. Thrilled to see another piece of crap grow op shut down.
2.2 million, I think it is closer to 22 million dollars on 18,000 plants.

Looks like its right down Copperhead Road.
no weapons found so they basically seized a few weeks of supply..big deal move on to the cocaine and guns
22 million is correct He Spoke.
According to the formula used by the RCMP , the figure of $2.2 million is correct.

Congratulations guys and girls, keep up the pressure, maybe one day the system will even
penalize someone. Well, we can only hope.
OC, I hope yer pissed!
Don't know what the RCMP are smoking, but no one is going to build 20 greenhouses and hire numerous people for a highly risky payback of $2 million. This link lays it out

http://www.drugscience.org/Archive/bcr2/estproc.html

At retail prices of $174 /ounce, an average of 7 ounces/plant, times 18k plants, yields
$ 21,924,000

With this kind of return, the supply of these grow-ops is infinite. decriminalize it, let everyone grow their own weed, make it worthless. Thats the only way to stop the criminal element. Otherwise we are actually subsidizing criminal organizations by maintaining the status quo.
Should have shown their faces. If they ever had contact in town maybe someone would remember them and others that they may have been with.
There goes the HST Campbell could have collected on the sale of the weed. Bet he is p***ed.
Well, I guess the formula is out a decimal point.

They got to be pretty naive to think that the cops don't do fly bys. The cops knew about this one for a while. They just wanted the crops to be on its way pretty good before they busted them, that way the growers are more finacially committed into the crop.

I suspect that somewhere in the lower mainland there will be a gunshot heard. The victim would fall under the category, "known to police"
Pot busts and traffic tickets. Decisions, decisions?? Twenty officers?? That probably cost us a mil. These guys are gonna get a fine. Legalize it before we have to train a million more cops!
I was just up there Quading a few weeks ago, funny I didn't run into it

Given that this amount of pot (and that from most every other large scale grow op) is almost certainly bound for illicit export markets, what good would legalizing it in Canada do?

Do you honestly think that we would survive the political and economic fallout that would come with allowing large scale grow ops in Canada as a means to source some other county's still illegal markets? If so, you are probably smoking too much of the stuff.

Face reality folks, leaglizing will work ONLY if it occurs in EVERY jurisdiction to which it is being exported and sold to. If that occurs, then we could have a good industry. Of course, then it would be open for competition and we don't do too well in Canada when it comes to innovation. We'd probably grow the plants, ship them somewhere else to be processed and complain that we were being paid a "living wage" to do it, LOL.

benny - Lucky you didn't run into it. God only knows if they had some crazy firepower out there.
NMG,It will be shipped across borders whether or not it is legalized in Canada.
Legalizing pot in Canada has nothing to do with where it is shipped to.
Legalizing it in Canada will contribute to our tax base and prevent those growing it legally from becoming criminals.
Legalizing it in Canada will save multi millions of taxpayer dollars being wasted on the war on pot like we see now.
NMG:
From the expert opinion on the CBC, the MJ grown here in PG was destined for the oilpatch in Alberta. Seems unlikely that weed grown here would be exported to the U.S. Furthermore no one has talked about allowing large scale grow-ops- that is your confabulation. If everyone was allowed to grow enough for personal consumption, say like 10 plants, that alone would destroy the grow op business and put a big dent in organized crime. The only reason anyone can have for maintaining the status quo is to keep gas in their hawgs.
Dragonmaster it makes all the difference in the world. Do you think the US would stand idly by if Canada allowed people to harvest a crop on a mass scale that the Canadian government we KNEW was being exported illegally into the US (because it would never go across legally)? The border would be shut down so quickly you'd be living off of pine bark because nothing would be coming back the other way.

herbster, I'd have no problem with allowing people to grow a small amount for personal consumption only. I really could care less. The large scale ops we see here though are organized crime at work. I simply don't see how all of the stuff being shut down in BC (and let's cae it, most of them don't get shut down), is destined for domestic markets. Most of it is going abroad or being traded for harder drugs and guns. Sure some will be used here, but it's inconsequential to the overall volume. The size of our population compared to other markets for the product dictates that.

As an aside, are the cops out there busting people who have 5 or 10 plants and shipping those people off to jail? I must have missed those press releases . . .
decriminalizing possesion of pot and smoking of pot does not equal the legalization of mass grow ops or trafficking pot.
We are not American and should not have to ask their permission to govern our own country...
the prohibition of marajuana is a direct result of racist politicians in the USA.
The War on Drugs is based on out dated racist ideas.
dont believe me....Look it up
