Vanderhoof, B.C.-  – Today's the day,  people in B.C. are being encouraged to  celebrate beef, it is, the first ever  B.C. Beef Day in the province.

“Our local ranchers work very hard in their dedication to quality beef production and that deserves some recognition,” says Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad. “We have excellent, top quality beef in this province and by buying locally, we are boosting local families that work as cattlemen and cattlewomen to put food on all our tables.”

B.C. Beef Day is a celebration of the people who have been breeding and raising some of the finest animals in the world for more than 100 years.  Over many decades, ranching gave life to entire communities in rural B.C.

“I encourage British Columbians to celebrate Beef in B.C. Day in their own ways,” says Agriculture and Lands Minister Steve Thomson. “It can be as simple as buying Canadian beef from the grocery store.  Or go all out and barbeque for family and friends.  Every purchase supports B.C.’s hardworking, world class ranchers.”

Ranching is essential to life in many parts of rural B.C. and a large contributor to the provincial economy.  The cattle industry in B.C. not only supports many rural communities, it provides jobs for workers in related industries, such as veterinary medicine, equipment sales, and feed businesses.  Over 4,000 B.C. ranches contribute over $250 million to the provincial economy.

mmm
And did you know that there are thousands of cattle guards all over the province and if the government was a little bit fiscally responsible, they would lay off at least 30% of them and save the tax payers millions.

This was thought up by an astute politician several years ago. Not sure whether it was Liberal or NDP. Probably the same guys who believe that co2 causes global warming.

Eat lots of BC beef especially the beef that is processed in BC.
its about damn time BC got on this train .... Any restaurant you go into advertises "Alberta Beef" blah blah blah ... In the heart of Bc cattle country to boot ... I thought that was utterly hilarious

I lived in Alberta and was close to alot of ranchers there ... they are doing it right ...BC once again is doing it way wrong

BC Cattle are sent by truck to the slaughter houses in Alberta. The beef is slaughtered processed and sent all over the Continental USA, and exported. It is also shipped back to BC and sold in most super markets. Some beef is sent to Prince George from the Dawson Creek area, in quarters and butchered in the local butcher shops.

If you want to process beef in BC then you better build some slaugherhouses.

Huge Slaugherhouses in Nebraska. Huge pig farms and Slaugherhouses in Arkansas.

Nothing in BC to my knowledge, certainly nothing very big.

I buy local beef from some of the small operators, like Chilko Meats, Ness Lake, Ft St James, etc, buy eggs locally also, and I can tell you one thing. I have never run into a line-up. Which means most people buy from the Super Markets.

Probably could have a viable industry if the locals were to support local industry. Whats the chances of that happening????
I want to know where do I get good beef in B.C. because all the beef I've ever ate in B.C. tastes just like liver. No matter where you buy it. At a butcher or a store. What the hell are they feeding us? Makes no wonder were all dying of cancer.
