Prince George, B.C. – The  City of Prince George has submitted its detailed bid for the 2015 Canada Winter Games, it had to be in by May 28th.

This evening, there is a special Winter Games Open House  set for the Civic Centre to share information with the public on the event.

The information session will provide information on how people can get involved, the importance of the games to Prince George, both through the economic spin off from hosting the games, and through the publicity the City will gain from the opportunity.

Prince George is in competition with Kamloops and Kelowna for the right to host the Games. For Prince George, hosting the games would be icing on the City’s 100th birthday which will be celebrated in 2015.

The bid is not cheap.

It has already required nearly half a million dollars in dedicated funding and will require millions more in infrastructure upgrades. There will also be significant financial input form the Federal and Provincial governments.
Games bid Co-Chairs, Mayor Dan Rogers and Les Waldie will be in attendance at the open house to make a presentation and answer questions.   The open house is slated for 5-7:00 p.m. at the Civic Centre.

no, not here, not now!
Has no one paid attention to the owlypic costs and returns?

The only winners with this will be the politicians, the contractors, and the security providers. The colloquial we the taxpayers will get the excessive budget over run bill.

To be clear,
DO NOT PURSUE THIS EVENT. LET ANOTHER MUNICIPALITY ABSORB THIS ELITIST PARTY FOLLY FOR CORPORATIONS AND POLITICIANS.
Be careful what you wish for!
Another big party that will only leave behind debt of an unknown amount.
Remember the Olympics?
And if they tell you there won't be any debt, watch out.
They said that about the big party in Whistler too!
City hall listen to taxpayers!?
Yeeeeaaaaaaah! Riiiiiight!
sorry guys, but this is a good thing...you have no idea what good this will do for the city, both short and long term. But first we have to compete to get the games....bring it on Kelowna and Kamloops.
This is a good thing?
Like when they said the owlypics were going to be a good thing?
Or when they said the hst would be a good thing?
How about when they said more laws reducing our freedoms are a good thing?
How about when the city said that buying a hotel at market value with out an exit plan is a good thing?

Is that the "good thing" you are referring to?

If that is so, you can keep your good thing, and don't ask me to pay for it.
