Prince George- Police are again cautioning vehicle owners to keep their valuables locked up in their vehicle after another round of thefts .
Police say windows are being smashed causing more damage than the break in.

Monday night police arrested a man trying to break into a car in the 1000 block of 1st ave.

A 30 year old man was arrested at the scene. He has 50 previous convictions for similar offences. He is in custody charged with theft under $500 dollars.

In another incident, neighbours tried to apprehend a man rummaging through a vehicle in the 500 block of Runnels St. He put up a fight and escaped leaving behind his pack sack with a cell phone in it. A search with a police dog failed to turn him up.

Better yet, don't leave anything in your vehicles. They will only smash the windows to get in.
Maybe it is time to start amputating the hands of these thieves.....at the neck!
Those who are caught theiving need not be sent to jail, their sentence should be passed right on the spot; slam their fingers in the car door a half dozen times, then let them walk away. Make them pay for their own medical treatment too.
metalman.
So what's the magic number of offences that'll actually put someone like this behind bars? Obviously this guy thinks that what's ours is his and that he doesn't have to work for a living. Bet he'll cry that he has a drug problem and be out soon - on welfare looking for his next target. Frustrating part is that what this piece of garbage has been convicted of is probably only a small % of the crimes he's committed.
My friend also was a victim to a break-in to his vehicle. They caused 1100 dollars damage all for an empty wallet with an expired credit card. About a year ago another friend had his vehicle broken into. Word through the grapevine he caught the guy in the act and the cop looked the other way while the owner beat the thief up. Police looked back and said he was found like that. I think that would give me some satisfaction to the damage this piece of sh*t just caused. I guess the guy was a repeat offender.

If he's not learned after 50....think he'll learn after 51? That idea of a few wacks with a cane sure seems like the solution to me....maybe I'm just too harsh.
i just leave my doors open and leavy nothing in there good steal and if i catch them i have a 3 foot axe by more door so i will be smashing them out with it if there on my property.thanks :)

" Word through the grapevine he caught the guy in the act and the cop looked the other way while the owner beat the thief up. Police looked back and said he was found like that "

makes you wonder how many times they beat people themselves and make up a similar story
Kinda funny, I actually do what Don does, I seldom lock my doors in my vehicle and done leave anything of value in it. Of course I usually have dogs with me, and they dont take kindly to strangers.

Personally if it's a repeat offender i will look the other way too. Maybe they will get the message that way instead of getting arrested and then let out the next day on a promise to appear. They then go and commit a bunch of more crimes. If they do show up to court get a slap on the wrist. And then they are free to commit more crimes. And like anniemartin said, "Frustrating part is that what this piece of garbage has been convicted of is probably only a small % of the crimes he's committed."
why lock up 5 dollars in change so they can smash out your 300 dollar window..it never really made sense to me..crackheads are never going away we just gotta learn how to live with them and out smart them
My husband always says it is not worth locking the doors just so the windows can get smashed. I agree, but I also don't leave anything of value in my vehicle.

With regards to this guy they caught - it would be great if they could just add up all the charges (not just the current under of theft under $500) because it seems the chances of getting this idiot out of our hair and in to a jail cell would be greater.
50 previous convictions, eh? I do denote a trend. Only to be ended with old age or by someone who could be guaranteed a trial by jury.
