Prince George- It has been more than 10 years since 13 year old Adam Scott Williams, a Kelly Road High School student died. Today, the trial of the man facing charges in connection with his death, Lloyd Cook, has begun.
The Crown expects the trial to take at least six weeks. Three of those weeks now and then a further three weeks in November. The Crown expects to present evidence that Adam had been tied to his bed for a few days, fed occasionally, and then on January 7th, 2000, he died.
The Crown alleges that Adam’s body was then wrapped in a blanket and stored in a vehicle, and buried a few days later off North Nechako Rd. The Crown also says it expects to hear testimony that Adam's death was hidden from authorities for more than 4 years.
The trail expects to hear from officers involved in an elaborate undercover operation which led to the charges being laid against Lloyd Cook.
Adam died in January of 2000; his death was not reported to authorities until October of 2004. There were three searches conducted in an area off North Nechako Road and two of those searches produced human remains.
Cook is charged with criminal negligence causing death, manslaughter, unlawful confinement or imprisonment and Interference with a dead body.
While the trial will continue for the next three weeks, the testimony being given is under a Court "Voire Dire" which will prevent any publication of the testimony. The "voire dire" was put in place in an effort to protect the names and pseudonyms of undercover police officers who will be testifying during this first part of the trial.
Adam's mother, Judith Williams is also facing charges in connection with his death. Although she is expected to testify at this trial, she is not expected to do so until November.
