These are interesting statistics, however the real interesting one would be to see how many of these crimes were committed by the same people. When you just put out the numbers the assumption is that they are individual crimes when in fact a large number of them are no doubt committed by the same people. If we had this information it would give us a better idea as to the actual number of criminals in the area. Also what is the number of convictions versus the number of investigations. An investigation could be no more than asking questions of a few individuals. Convictions and sentencing would be very interesting, however I doubt that this information would be available as it would reflect on how crime is actually dealt with.
Another piece of information would be interesting: where did the crime take place?

Perhaps downtown isn't as scary as people perceive.

Another even more interesting piece of the pie is how many are in jail where they belong?
My guess would be that Foothills subdivision has the lowest crime rate in the city followed by North Nechako and then the Hart area.

I would further guess that the highest crime rates would be in the VLA subdivision more commonly referred to as the 'hood' followed closely by the cresents neighborhood. I would bet that these two neighborhoods comprise of 80% all crime in residential neighborhoods with 25% of the cities population.

Thats my perseption.
fedup: "Another even more interesting piece of the pie is how many are in jail where they belong? "

If they were in jail where they belong they wouldn't be out there committing crimes over and over again.

Perhaps we should look at the "three strikes and you are out" legislation that is in place in some US state.

After the third conviction the offender stays locked up, obviously unfit to fit into society and its basic rules.
I have a tendancy to concur with Chadermando.

Vilfredo Pareto's Law has determined that 80% of our problems are from 20% of the the offenders.

Let's deal with this 20% and we will reduce 80% of the offences.

I challenge anyone to prove otherwise. Percy
