Prince George, B.C.- It is hard to believe that ten years have passed since people packed the “multiplex” in Prince George in what would be the rallying call for a change in the way health care was delivered to the north.
June 22nd is the official anniversary of the event which was the catalyst for change:
· The Health Care rally was the incentive for the development of the Northern Medical Program, the first graduates of that program will finish their residency’s this spring.
· The Nursing program at UNBC was expanded and a Nurse Practitioner degree was added.
· Communities, individuals, and corporations throughout northern BC raised $6 million through the Northern Medical Programs Trust to support students
To mark the anniversary, UNBC will be hosting a celebration and unveiling a donor wall in the Dr Donald Rix Northern Health Sciences Centre (NHSC) on June 22nd, to forever name those who supported the NMPT during this critical first 10 years.
