Ft Nelson- Two young girls, one 15 the other 16 have died in a car crash on the Old Alaska Highway, near Ft Nelson at 7.44pm, Wednesday. A third 16 year old female teen is in University hospital in Prince George with serious but not life threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 24 year old Burnaby man is in hospital in Dawson Creek after he was found unconscious and unresponsive at the scene of the crash.

The driver is currently wanted in Alberta for outstanding charges.

Police say all were the occupants of a single vehicle that rolled into the ditch after the driver had lost control while travelling at high speed.

Four of the occupants were not wearing seat belts, the fifth was, and he walked away from the crash with only minor injuries.

Police say drugs, alcohol, speed and a failure to wear seat belts all contributed to the crash and injuries.

Police are working with the principal at the Secondary School to assist in the trauma and counselling needed for students.

Charges are expected to be recommended by police

You can tell them not to ride with friends that are partying, and tell them not to get high and drive, but most kids have to learn for themselves what the cost can be for their stupidity. Sad. With their deaths they end up hurting everyone around them because of their dumb decisions.
metalman.
"The driver of the vehicle, a 24 year old Burnaby man"

1. he is an adult and should have known better
2. he is 24 partying with a bunch of 15 and 16 yo girls
3. As the oldest person involved, I believe legally all liability and responsibility for this event falls on his head.
4. the only one wearing a seat belt was the only other male, likely another teen.
The one wearing the seatbelt was the only sensible person. Probably realized how crazy the driver was and may have regretted tagging along. Lots of lessons learnt from this accident. A future ICBC material for nasty drivers????
he wasnt 'partying' with them.. he was there cousin.
and the other boy was around 20..
he wasnt 'partying' with them - yet drugs and alcohol are factors? Just because he is related to them doesnt mean he wasnt partying with them...
Facts now known now:

1)reporters like to sensationalize and lie to receive "shock value" and get more readers
2)there were NO drugs or alcohol found in driver's blood toxicology results were negative, ZERO
3) young girls were a cousin and her friend wanting a lift somewhere
4) trying to make a teen keep a seat belt on when they are stubborn and fooling around is a nearly impossibility
5) accidents happen for many reasons...animals on road, mechanical failure, weather, passengers disrupting driver's focus etc...and that oh so elusive mystery factor of "who knows"
6) easy to lay blame before the facts are known but irresponsible
7) judging the driver as nasty, partying, drunk, drugged, irresponsible, immature, juvenile is purely judgmental and speculative...get the facts straight before condemning someone..there is a lot more to the story!
You are saying the toxicology reports are back already? AMAZING! Those normally take weeks... yet you say it is a "fact now known now"? okeeee
So the police statement that drugs and alcohol are factors was made up by the media?
the RCMP stated toxicology 'negative.' No charges are being laid. Perhaps other more complex tests are being done. Not saying the media made them up, but they report them fast for a good story without really checking their facts. Perhaps the young teens were drinking and so on...a guy was perhaps just picking up his cousin and her friends who had been drinking? But as far as the RCMP are concerned, no drugs or alcohol found in driver's system. How would the police know if drugs and alcohol were in the driver's body at the scene without toxicology tests? Perhaps they concluded a little too fast.
