Prince George, B.C.- The Province has put out the call for proposals for the construction of modular classrooms to support the move to full day kindergarten.

School District 57 will not be receiving any funding for new classrooms, but will share in the $10 million dollars set aside for the upgrading and equipping of existing space and will be fully funded for the operation of all day kindergarten.

The $144.5 million in capital funding announced today will provide 665 new classrooms throughout the province including:

·        Renovations to resource centre to create two classrooms next to the Cataline Elementary in Williams Lake

·        One new modular classroom at 150 Mile House Elementary

·        One modular classroom for Charlie Lake Elementary

·        One modular classroom for Prespatou Elementary

·        Creation of 8 new classrooms at the Enerplex in Fort St. John

"Modular classroom"? Didn't we used to call them "portables"?
I believe you are correct. Only this way the supplier/provider can charge a premium by applying a new name to an old temporary solution to the shiny new permanent temporary solution.

Why do we have all-day kindergarten (German, literally means "children's garden") is a form of education for young children which serves as a transition from home to the commencement of more formal schooling.
What gives with the dust collector shelf at the window? Why would anyone put in a window that one can hardly look out of in the first place, and then further shield it from the inside to reduce the angle of vision to the outside sky and reduce the amount of light coming into the classroom?

A totally unimaginative space to provide to children who need an imaginative space.

But hey, it's probably going to be constructed to LEED standards. Oops, wait! There is no green roof.
The freakin province is underfunding education and comes up with this idea?

Recall these fools. They did better in the 1980's than they're doing now.

This is pathetic.
Bad idea...very bad.
Seems to me this is a feeble attempt to pick up some votes by the Liberals.
This has to be a pretty costly program to run, even after it is setup.
A babysitting service at taxpayers expense?
Daycare?
Look to see it cancelled at some point in the near future, due to the high costs of running it!
There are far better ways to spend education dollars, which are already in short supply!
Bad idea!
I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old. I am really happy that full day kindergarten will be available for my kids. Or should I say my wife and I are very happy this will be avaiable for us.
