Prince George, B.C.-  Something  a little different  at the Prince George Airport today.

The Italian Airforce has  requested permission  to make a fuel stop  at YXS  this morning  in their Tornado IDS.

This is a very interesting aircraft.

One  Tornado, and a supply aircraft are scheduled to  land at 10:30 this  morning, and will be here  until about 1:30 in the afternoon.

The two  aircraft are on their way to a  combined military exercise in the Alaska/Yukon area.

Opinion 250 will be on site to  take some photos   to pass along to  our readers.  We know there is always a lot of interest when  unusual  aircraft arrive in Prince George.

Great to see that we are becoming known, so that other countries see our airport, as a place they want to stop.

It would be interesting to know how many dollars are brought into the local economy each time a plane lands.

Even just the sale of a thousand gallons of aviation fuel has to put a smile on someones face!
Right-on, Will be looking forward to seeing more photo's later on this evening.
It is a good thing to see the new runway used...
but both of these aircraft could have easily landed on the old one.

The only reason I can think this is happening... YXS is making it financially prudent for them to stop here....else they would have been stopping here all along...
my opinion anyways...

would like to see just how much money the airport is making on this ....
Delayed?
Seems to me we went throught this delay thing with the last jet that came from asia?
wonder if maybe they are holding off for a better deal?
The Airport charges landing and take off fees based on Maximum Gross Takeoff Weight of an Aircraft.

The rate for Jets between 21000 and 45000KG is $12.25 per 1000KG. The Italian Tornado Jet Specs out somewhere around 28000KG. So thats what the Airport gets for a landing and take-off of this jet.

Insofar as the fuel goes. The majority of course goes to Shell Oil. The balance to the operator of the fuel facility. If it is anything like what local service stations get, it wouldnt be much. You would have to have huge volumes to make *big* money.

BC Racer is right. This Jet could land on the old Airport Runway without any difficulty.
Shell runs the F.O. themselves, no local ownership anymore.
metalman.
Typical disappointment.
