Prince George- Three young hikers are home in Prince George after being found by a search party on Monday in the Bears Den area east of Prince George.

The trio, two twenty year olds, and a 21 year old had gone on a hiking expedition in the Grizzly den walking trail on Sunday.

They became separated Sunday night when one of the boys attempted to climb a ridge to see where they were and lost  the other two.

Jeff Smedley of the Prince George Search and Rescue said there were about 20 people who had taken the hike up the trail, "These boys got lost when they missed the trail because of snow on it".

The one youth was found in the Tumuch Creek drainage at about 3pm. yesterday the other was located and picked up at around 7pm in the same area.

Smedley says both had used good bush sense, the single youth had constructed a well insulated hide with spruce bows and other material and he said he had a fairly comfortable night. The other two also built a shelter to protect themselves from the weather. Temperatures had dropped to freezing in the alpine where they were lost.

A total of 49 searches from Prince George and McBride search and rescue were involved in the search, two RCMP dogs, PEP Air, Aberdeen Helicopters, The RCMP Helicopter, and Yellowhead Helicopters.

Good job SAR. Isn't it great having SAR available for EVERYONE when they're needed. It's great to have them available to all at taxpayers expense. One never knows when one may need their help. Keep up the good work Jeff and gang!

Oh and it's Tumuch Creek, not "Two Much Creek"
i've gotten lost on that trail at about this time of year. it's really poorly marked in the winter and spring, lots of the trail markers are covered by snow most of the year, and often there is only trail markers going in one direction, on one side of the tree. that being said, decent route-finding skills are a must whenever you go out.
hmmm, I bet that cost a few bucks
Yes, it probably cost a few bucks, but Hmmm if they were your family would you think different??
always bring a map and a compass, and know how to use them.
glad they are home safe!!
