Belle as she was found in December 2008,  on the right, Belle  this spring after a year of  tender loving care
Prince George, B.C.-  Today , the folks in McBride and others visiting that community, will get a look at a new Belle.
She is the mare who, along with gelding Sundance, was rescued from the Renshaw in the depths of December of 2008.
The two horses had been abandoned by their owner, and were near starvation in chest deep snow when they were spotted by a snowmobiler.
Numerous members of the McBride community banded together to hand dig a trench and walk the horses to safety.
Belle and Sundance found new homes in separate farms, and   Belle has recovered   to the point she is making her first public appearance today, leading the Pioneer Days Parade.
We thought we would share this current picture of Belle and her trainer Birgit Stutz with you so you can see what hard work, determination  and the will to survive can accomplish.
Great job McBride, Birgit and by the way Belle……you look marvellous!

This story has brought tears. This is amazing. What a complete turn around. This is a wonderful story. Birgit you are quite the horseperson and has done wonders for belle. God bless all of the unselfish folks who contributed to make this all happen. To that piece of crap lawyer who allowed these animals to suffer...remember what goes around, comes around.
Thank you Ben & Elaine for the pictures and continous coverage of this whole saga.
Proof that there is some love and compassion in this world. Good work!
Amazing!Nice to see a great ending to a lousy beginning. My punishment for the lawyer would been to allow the horse to give him a backkick, and whatever the outcome of that is left to chance, just as he had done by abandoning the horses.
She looks awesome!
Wonderful exibition of a community not only caring but going out of their way to save these animals!

Great job to all who helped from digging, donating, and healing these animals!
Belle is a perfect name for this beauty. I really wanted to be at the parade yesterday to show my love and appreciation but was unable to attend. I am so grateful to all the people who took time out of their lives to participate in this rescue effort -- thank you, thank you, thank you!
