Evacuation Alert In Effect South West of Vanderhoof

Vanderhoof, B.C.- The fire  North of Greer Creek is now estimated to be  3000 hectares and it is threatening communities.  The Regional District of Bulkley Nechako has issued an evacuation alert for residents south of Nulki lake.

The Alert affects residents from the 18.5 km mark of Kenny Dam Road south to the end of Corkscrew Road, including Edwards Road, York Drive, Surprise Drive and Szanz Drive.

Smoke is affecting travel on nearby roads. Kluskus Forest Service Road is currently out of service.

The cause of this  fire remains under investigation.

There  are 60 wildfire fighters are currently working to contain this fire. Ground crews are being supported by 2 groups of airtankers dropping fire retardant and 3 helicopters. An Incident Management Team is en route to direct fire suppression operations, along with structural protection specialists.

That does not look good at all. Hopefully the residents in the area get through this unharmed.

At least it looks like there are a lot of cut blocks in the area. Hopefully they act as a bit of a fire break.
I live across the lake and have been watching this fire for a couple days. They have pulled the men out and the machinery and I haven't seen any bombers for a while (there were only a couple anyway). The last report was that it was 3,000 hectares but it is at least twice that size now. Residents across the lake are safe for now as the fire is a couple km away from any houses. Everyone is on an evacuation alert.
Last report I got from one of the firefighters is that the fire is now 6,000 hectares. It is so smokey here we can't see across the lake any more. Also a strong wind blowing this direction. Not good news for the residents on the opposite shore of the lake. There is only one road out of the area and it is socked in now.
30 square kilometers and growing very fast!
