Building Permits Up

Prince George, B.C. – The number and value of building permits continues to  grow. The number of year to date permits and their value is nearly double  what was experienced at this time last year.
Single family dwellings  seem to be driving the  increase  with  53 homes valued at more than $12 million dollars started so far this year, compared to just  17 new homes valued at a little over $4 million  during the first 5 months of last year.
Some of the highlights for May include:
 
• 697 Quebec Street, Interior and Exterior renovations, Commonwealth Health Corporation, $1,000,000.
• #131 3055 Massey Drive, Tennant Improvements, The Boathouse, $140,000.
• 15 Single Family Dwellings, $3,392,566.
 
Development Permits
The following are development permits that were issued in May 2010.
Commercial Development Permit
• 697 Quebec Street, Exterior renovations to accommodate office and retail use, Commonwealth Health Corporation.
 
Residential Development Permit
• 7364 and 7406 Hart Highway, 30 unit Seniors Housing, Access Engineering for Colin Mathew Holdings Ltd.

Something to keep an eye on is the lumber prices. I see after a fairly decent runup during the latter part of last year and the early part of this year, they are starting to tank again.
